well done NIM and Dinah. I like paying off small amounts first too as it feels like you've accomplished something plus you've got less outgoings to worry about. and well done on the great start to november too.
you have just shamed me into thinking i need a good kick up the backside where our debt are concerned. we are over half way to paying them off but seem to have stopped OPing. okay off to decide on some very MSE and money focused november goals.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

Hey,
We only went for a week (thanks for the 11 days for 3 days holiday ‘scam’!). We got flights for £600, a room in Jersey for £180 – then the rest was for everything else. We walked everywhere, did all the free stuff, and still got to do all the sights. We ate pretty well too, the scales at home were happy to show that!Really want to go back.
I pay more into the account as I have no car to pay for and have had my entire fuel bill paid for by work for the last 4 years. It’s only now that I’ve had to start paying and it’s £100 a month – will be less if I get to work at the office 6 miles away as 1. I can cycle and 2. I get the fuel paid for that as it’s not my ‘normal place of work’. I also get paid more than him anyway (the fact it’s all taxed, is not the point!) This is not a contentious point as I’ve always known this, and would rather the CC debts were paid first.
I do have to stick up for my BF now, because even though he’s an idiot, I do love him……I guess :P He works an 80 mile round trip from home, so hence his fuel and car expense is more. He’s not wasteful with his money (excluding the car), it’s evident from looking through the mountains and mountains of receipts! What he does do though, is when he needs some new clothes, for example, instead of buying a few things though out the year, he’ll buy them in one go (mainly because he hates clothes shopping) so instead of having to pay off £20 in one month extra on one item of clothing, he’ll have £150 for lots which he wouldn’t be able to pay in one go, so it’s a never ending cycle.
Anyway – lets not talk about me anymore! Let’s talk about the fantastic job you and NIM have done!DEBT FREE SINCE 25.07.14!

None of us are attacking him Greenie, I'm sure he's a lovely person, but you asked for financial opinions and we gave them honestly. You shouldn't feel the need to stick up for him, we're only commenting on one element and trying to help the two of you manage your finances in a way that will make you happier. Basically it's not a personal attack on him, but identifying where his money habits are impacting on both of you being debt free.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I didn't mean for it to sound like I didn't appreciate your comments - I really do. So thank you
All the comments you've all made are things for us to think about and we really will be on the road to debt free. Never at the rate of you and NIM though!DEBT FREE SINCE 25.07.14!

Slowly wasn't working for us unfortunately, did that all of last year and the debt doubled! I think I can deny myself holidays and clothes etc just fine if we're in debt clearing mode, but if I think we'll be in that mode for 5 years, then my mind assumes that the whole point of going slowly is you still get the treats.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
