I actually have read all the way from the beginning so now I feel like a proper stalker! I started reading just before Dinah cleared her debt in diary 1 though, and read back as our starting amounts were similar. Have just kind of kept up with it without thinking really, its only when you actually realise how long its been that I feel a bit...um...creepy?
I'm not a weirdo I promise! I have delurked a couple of times before but only briefly :p

The last couple of takeaways I had weren't very nice (Dominos made me poorly! Gutted!) so that has luckily put me off for a while. Wish the same would happen with the office biscuits!

  • Eek to the blizzards Greenie - we had a beautiful sunset on Ben Nevis but the other two were horrible. It was a brilliant thing to do but I won't do it again haha!

I don't have any takeaways that close but half the time when I get one I don't enjoy it much anyway so it is a waste of money, although tried a new Indian recently which was gorgeous *stomach rumbling* *is it tea time yet?*

EDIT - Shrimpy I don't know why but I always thought your avatar was a kitten ... it's a teapot!! :undecided

Yeah I have found that too with takeaways lately. The Kenwood chef and pizza stone have eliminated any pizza takeaways. Although the last time I made dough I left the Kenwood mixer unattended and it managed to leap off the worktop in some sort of mixer suicide attempt! The noise was crazy. It did survive bar a few chips and a big dent in the kitchen floor.

We went out for a curry last night and it was so amazingly tasty. I think learning to cook one is on my day zero? Ah yes, I wanted to take this Bangladeshi cookery course, but they stopped running it in the local place. Shame. Got to get curries mastered in the meantime somehow.

Chips, well we have got a good local chippy called The Saucy Kipper. But Scottish chips are the best closely followed by Northern Irish. English chips - especially in the South aren't up to much usually :p Maybe its a big city thing, though.

    Mmmm..... Chipsss

I think that the thing with takeaways is that the idea is always nicer than the actual food! And really by the time you walked/driven there, waited around for it and taken it home you could have just whipped something up! We've stopped getting take out pizza as the frozen Ristorante pizzas are nicer than the grease fest from around the corner, loads cheaper and a nice quick and easy 'junk' fix for when we are craving take-out.

Shrimpy, it's not creepy to be a lurker, I've lurked on plenty of other threads but had nothing to actually add so I stay quiet, you just forget that people don't know you're there which can feel a little odd! :o

Come up North, we've got great chips where I live! And curry sauce!!!! Ooooh I'd kill for Chish and Fips! :D

LOL at the suicidal mixer!

Thanks Birdie! Also meant to ask, how is your flavoured vodka coming along? I have made some skittles vodka for my party this weekend and the bottles are such pretty colours! Except the orange one which keeps separating itself out for some reason...

  • Yes I meant to ask about the vodka too thanks Shrimpy! Are you meant to just drink it neat with it being flavoured? I'm thinking of trying the Werthers one, but was thinking rather than decant it, bash the sweets up and post them through the neck of the bottle? Would that work - it doesn't fizz up or anything? I wonder would Cherry Drops work too?? How many sweets to a litre?

Shrimpy have you done a separate one for each colour Skittle? Fab!

Making a curry from scratch is on my Day Zero too, never even attempted it! And bread!

I've actually just decanted my vodkas into mini wine bottles, one Dolmio jar fills 2 mini bottles! :D I think the Werthers one I'd drink neat, maybe on ice like Baileys. It doesn't seem as thick as I'd expected so might add more sweets. It doesn't fizz up and I didn't bother bashing them up, just threw them into the jar (a couple of inches worth) and topped with vodka, sure it would work straight in the bottle, just leave enough room to give it a good shake (2-3 times a day for a few days). The rhubarb and custard one seems fine, another 'shot' drink I reckon. The boiled sweet one is pretty rank though, might bin that! Thinking of doing candy cane flavour instead! Or pear drop! Oooh I need to buy more vodka! :o

Any boiled/sugary type sweet would be fine I think, nothing gooey though!

a good (quick) way I had a lot of sweets flavoured vodka (inc toffee which went super thick!) once was by putting the sweets in, putting the lids on tight and putting tape round then putting them in the dishwasher! a dishwasher is like a water bath I guess but it meant we could have the drinks the day after we wanted them!

Sorry it's a bit late but HAPPY BIRTHDAY wendz

Okay you lot have talked for 3 pages so I might not be able to mention everything I wanted to as I'm likely to forget.

Dinah please take the advice on here and relax.

NIM good luck heading the business for a couple of weeks. I'm sure you'll be fab.

I too am in a fairly low paid job. Only problem is I love it. Would love to earn better money at it though and have been trying to get my name known in the company ready for promotion opportunities etc. Obviously being on mat leave now means I can't really do anything but I will be looking around elsewhere before I go back to work next year. Although having my own business would be nice too.

Corsetry is fab and you can make good money from it (can't remember who was talking about corsets) but not on Ebay. Everyone wants bargains on there and won't pay top money for a proper corset when they can spend a £10 on what is essentially a basque.

I feel really short now with everyone declaring your height. I'm 5' 3" so feel surrounded by giants now!

Hope I've caught up now. I've delibrately missed out the takeaway talk as we live on a street full of them and I would be really tempted to have one. :o

    hope everyone is well
