Wow, your dissertation sounds like very interesting stuff Dinah! I never thought about the fact that buildings were designed by men so things like door handles are higher... but it's so obvious now you mention it! :)

Great news about paying off the card and almost paying off the car! :j Will be great to just have the one card to concentrate on! :D

Great news about the job Cinny! Welcome to the world of full-time [strike]misery[/strike] employed joy! ;) What will you be doing?

That's crap about the freezer, good that you found out whilst everything was still OK to be cooked though! :)

Shrimpy, that bouquet is so pretty! :)

ARGH! We're one sodding day outside the warranty.

People say about that happening, I thought it was just a joke! That's ridiculous. Really hope it's just the fuse.

Forgot to say, that's really great news about the debts getting paid off :)

It's just a standard reception job, but thankfully I like that kind of work. A nice routine! :p It will mean working until 8pm some nights, and working Saturday mornings. But the wage will = savings. And I miss savings!

Hi N.I.M I know a nanny can sound like it is only for the well off but you can be lucky. It is often cheaper than a nursery. It is not cheaper than a child minder but that is not for you from what you have said. Even if their hourly rate is the same as what one of you earn, you are not financially worse off and you have the advantages of still being in the workplace and not being always at home.

wow its been busy on here today! I hope your family situation works itself out Cinny I feel super bad for you its horrible when you can't avoid being around people you dont like and who make you feel unhappy :(
Congrats on the new job though! That sounds really good! What kind of place will you be a receptionist at? Will you get any freebies/benefits?
I've always wanted a job where I can get perks! Whats happening with your OH's job at the mo? did he get a new one or is he still at the old one which wasnt treating him well (sorry everything tends to blur a bit when I just catch up in chunks!)

That flower bouquet is gorgeous! I've had to book mark it for the future! (not that marriage is anywhere close though for me ha!)

Glad you mum spoilt you and Grace at the weekend Dinah and you didn't struggle with the buggy tooo much! Your dissertation sounds interesting too. I really enjoyed my dissertation and my masters because of the freedom of what we could research and then just in general going off and trying it was good. It was the official writing up I didn't like so much anyone else have to constantly count down words on this kind of thing? I remember being at something like 1,390/20,000 and feeling a bit depressed!! Some places are definitely not designed by men I think though, my boyf is always hitting his head on low beams and almost on door frames and he's not even that tall!!

The childcare thing is interesting but it seems good that you have so many options and can try different scenarios of how you can make it work out, and it wil work out and Grace will be fine I know so. I think a nanny could be a good option (and theres lots of nanny shares out there nowadays) and not too expensive either if you do still want to work. Even if you run a business from home I still think you need help because you can't run a business and keep a child entertained, and do the housework all at the same time (I know some of my friends/family who normally work from home are finding it hard now it's the holidays)! is the business which your dad is getting someone involved in still the cake thing? How is it going? I wish I had a business idea but everytime I think of something I research it and it's already been invented/similar!

Well done for paying off NIMs CC !! I'm sure the rest will come in time, i think its good that you obviously have generous maternity leave if you were to go back, when would it be? If you dont go back I think you should see it as an opportunity like tetes and go and do what you want to do! If you don't have a qualification in it then you must have a qualification in something else (I dont know quite what your degree is in sorry!) and you might be able to go back into that? I'm not working in my uni field but it does still interest me and I could try to go back to it (perhaps from a different direction which is actually what I think i want to do...) later!

Not so much is going on with me, I'm busy busy busy and getting a bit overwhelmed but I'll be fine, just keep plodding along but could do with it being payday!

NIM do you still cycle to work? how far is it/how long does it take you? Do you do it every day? Sorry to be so nosy!

aaand I've written an essay! Better get back on it but I'll be reading when I can!

Yes I do, 7.5 miles each way and about half an hour depending on traffic, headwinds and lights, if I get caught at every set it takes 40 minutes...Grrrrr
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

    Hello Again

I think the nanny thing sounds good Mrs Moneypenny metioned in on scrimpers the other night too as she was doing childcare things, think there was a nanny share website too. Staying at home can be tough i always worked weekends and evenings in the bookies, when mine were little which worked out ok and went full time in the local authority when youngest was 3.

You seriously need to apply for DLA though as what you are proving (quite easily) is that you have to give more care and attention to Grace due to her condition than to a baby of the same age. I know you would still provide alot of care to a small baby but you wouldnt need to monitor them as much, visit the hospital, carry oxygen etc.
Even if you claim it and put it away for Grace when shes older so she can travel, learn to drive, go away to uni, etc etc.

And if you are refused appeal and go to the tribunal if you have to you shouldnt fail though to get it. I used to work in welfare rights for social services child care and i hate to see the geniune ones not applying when they should.... (climbs down of high horse now and slinks off)

  • Eek so much going on! Rubbish about the freezer guys :( But well done on all your other debt busting. Sounds like you have loads of possible options for childcare and I'm sure you'll make the right one for you all. Definitely apply for any benefits you can, no point biting your nose off to spite your face. I know you guys never rest on your laurels so if you did get tax credits now then in a years time you'd have thought up some super new money making idea!

Hooray for the new job Cinny :) Sorry things have been a bit wobbly recently, your brothers gf is an absolute nutjob. I didn't know you had trich, I had it as a kid (my childhood pictures are NOT pretty!) and don't know anyone else who does, so I'm sending you loads of good vibes as I know it sucks!

Gahh Birdie you make me jealous, I have friends who stayed there and loved it. It was a surprise holiday for her, literally "Oh lets go away, oh look we're at airport, and on a plane to Florida, and staying here...ta-da!"

Literally nothing exciting to report here, OHs birthday is coming up and I'd like to get him a decent camera. But I think he wants a nice DSLR (or something) so my £200 (max!) wouldn't go far at all, is it bad to give vouchers? So unromantic!

  • Ooh Birdie, quick question - You know when you order vouchers through work how do you get them delivered? Assume it's the same or similar scheme and they either do free postage or insured, but that's nearly £5 and I'm only saving £16 anyway...
It says free post isn't insured but surely legally I've given them money so they have to get the goods to me if the worst happens.

Congrats on the new job Cinny, sounds like it will suit you well and yay to having money to save.

One of the directors at my work paid her nanny £25k a year eek lol but i am sure you can get them cheaper. My friend might be getting a nanny after she goes back to work after her second child and keeps saying i could share but i am kind of keen on Poppy staying at nursery as she is so happy there.

Birdie - that hotel looks amazing, so jealous!
