Just a quick update, Grace's op went well. She's in the picu now, heavily sedated and on a lot of painkillers, so completely out of it, but hopefully they'll be able to wean her off the ventilator and down on the morphine tomorrow. The hope is to get her back down onto the ward and out of intensive care tomorrow or Wednesday. Her lung has been sent to the lab, results won't be for a few weeks, so it won't be until then when we know exactly what was up with it. She's still alert on some level no matter how groggy though, when I was up earlier she was gripping my finger so tightly if I shifted on my stool or tried to go and get my water, she clearly didn't want me going anywhere! I was so clingy with her this morning, they ended up putting me on the hospital bed to take her up to surgery with me still cuddling her in my arms. When I get her home I'm never letting go.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Grrr, just a bit of a rant now, our hospital flat has 3 bedrooms, and the new residents in one of the others are ignoring the 'do not smoke in this flat' signs. My asthma has been really bad the last few days and I don't need to be weazing all night, regardless of me being one of those obsessive people who doesn't want cigarette chemicals on my clothes and skin when I'm going to see my daughter who just had lung surgery and doesn't need any contaminants. Grrrr! The hospital boundary is less than 20m outside the flats - how freaking lazy and inconsiderate do you have to be not to walk 20metres?!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Just to continue my updates, financially I think we are doing okay, although being up here is costing a fortune in cafe food, supplies like undies and clothing and ready meals. The medicash money has basically saved us in the week before payday. While we hoped to pay it off the debt, if some of it is used to enable both of us to be with her then that's what happens. NIM is signed off for two weeks to be here, so his wages will be about £250 down this month I think. Our total debt will be down again when I do an update on around the first, so it's going in the right direction which is all that counts.
My grandad was diagnosed as terminal last week. No one has given a life expectancy, but from some forms mum was given it's under 3 months. His bedroom has been moved down to the dining room (not ideal given you go through it to get to their kitchen and it has no door) as he can't get upstairs (again, an issue as that's where the shower is) and someone is coming from the council this week to fit a hoist to the dining room ceiling to get him into and out of bed. It's quite a lot for mum to process as her mum died last year, and she's an only child so in that regard it's quite solitary although dad is doing a great job of helping with him, she's lucky to have a very supportive boss who has got cover in from half term until summer holidays so after next week she doesn't need to work until September. She had her first cuddles with Grace at the weekend, and described it as the best hour of her year.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

So glad Grace is doing well, she's such a little fighter! Love that she was hanging onto your finger and refusing to let you go anywhere!
You really need to complain about the smokers in the hospital flats if they're still there (and still smoking). Like you say, the people staying there are there because they've got poorly loved ones in the hospital, no-one needs to be going to visit them covered in smoke and nasties. Have a little common sense people!
Sorry to hear about your Grandad. It's nice that your Mum has her lovely little grand-daughter to cheer her up through all of this though.

Glad it went well with Grace. So cute about the finger holding. I think that's one of the best feeling a mum has in the early days. Shows that although heavily sedated she is still aware of things. Bet she wouldn't have held on so tightly had it been one of the nurses!
I too would complain about the smoking. Like you said they don't have far to walk and they should be considerate to others. They have no idea what other people are there for or what's wrong with their loved ones.
Sorry to hear about your grandad. I know it's not ideal but at least your mum has Grace to help her get through this.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000
