I went in 2005 I think it was, it was a week after they joined Europe and there was a lot of celebrating going on. I just found it a very beautiful, relaxing place and I think NIM would enjoy it (although no doubt would want to go to Auschvitz and given I cried at a puppy climbing the stairs on Grand Designs yesterday I'm not sure my hormones could take real sadness). It's the only place in Poland I have been though, is there anywhere else you'd recommend?

Because it was a uni trip we actually went to some amazing places, like a state owned steelworks, especially with coming from a UK area so proud of it's steel it was fascinating, but more so just the scale of abandonment of the place.

I've had a sneaky look on my phone :) Funnily enough I've been eyeing up that knitted skirt, when I showed it to OH he looked at it and said 'Very you' then rolled his eyes hehe! I like the Middleton-esque dress too, looks comfy and flattering, shame I don't have an excuse to buy it!

I really wish we had a local Tesco; it just doesn't make sense for us to drive 11 miles to the nearest one to get points when we have a Morrison's just up the road which usually works out cheaper (even though their veg is rubbish). We do go for a big shop and fill the car once a month but we really need to figure out how to get more points coming in, need them to pay for the hotel we're going to for our friend's wedding next year! We should get more organised and do online shopping I suppose.

Actually, that's reminded me of something stupid my friend did a few weeks ago; she went out and had too much to drink, came home at 3am and decided it'd be a good idea to place a Tesco order to arrive the following day then forgot all about it. Next afternoon a Tesco man knocks on the door with 4 bottles of Dr Pepper and 16 bath sponges! :rotfl:She's going to suggest that they have some sort of drunk filter turned on after midnight! :p

ETA: I'd love to go to Krakow... keep an eye out for deals in May for me! :)

Could you order online? The delivery charge is about what petrol will come to if you pop a mile or two twice a week anyway, and there are often online codes for 50 extra points on bananas or loo roll or something as well.

Good idea on the wedding hotel, need to see if the one my friend is getting married at next year takes the vouchers, would be very handy as it's about £180 a night!!!

Zakopane. In the Tatra mountains. Winter, spring or summer, doesn't matter, lots to do there and very close to Krakow (2 hours on the train). We found a family run villa on the internet and it only cost like £10 per night for 2 people, so cheap. I found Auschwitz very moving, I am not sure I could do it again. And we went to Wielicka, a salt mine just outside of Krakow. Sadly we stopped travelling in Poland as we only go there now for a long weekend so can't recommend anything else.
  • Ooh agree kavics, Zakopane is fab! I went in the middle of summer and it was so nice to go somewhere cool up the mountains. And you could use the bobsleigh run, was awesome. They have this cheese that looks like bread, and we ate at a meat palace where I swear I ate an entire pig. Heaven!
Love Krakow too, on my list of favourite places. Auschwitz was different to how I was expecting, so hot and busy. I think I'd prefer to go at a quieter time, maybe in winter when you could reflect a bit more. Getting shudders thinking of it now, so stay away pregnant ladies!

Cinny how come your hol is free? Or was that because it was with your comp money?

Just been asked to stay a few extra days of work, got to balance up extra money with less time to get organised. Plus I was on the countdown to finishing and now it'd be longer booo

I've always wanted to go to Auschwitz but I don't think OH would like it. I've got this thing about the former Soviet Union, Bohemia etc. Must be why I like Prague so much. We were thinking of going to Budapest later in the year but they are a bit up in the air with the EU thing that we thought it's best to wait till things die down.

On another note, just been invited to another interview for my dream job. Problem is it's "up north" as OH likes to put it at my old university but I would be working for the NHS. It's a great opportunity and the contract is secure for 4 years...BUT OH is a bit reluctant to move there unless he found the perfect job for him too. I know I haven't got the job but all these scenarios are floating around in my head and it's getting to me. OH and I are already in a LDR, and I couldn't deal with that for another 4 years. As I said this is the perfect job which would set me up for my career but living 300 odd miles apart from OH again is just too much to think about. I'm going to the interview and have booked trains and hotel for it. In a way it will be good to go back and explore the area again, not been there for 4 years and I've been craving a Parmo every day since I left hehe.

Would OH not move with you? What does he do?

He works for the Police (not a police officer though) and might be able to get a transfer to a force in the area but he would only do it if it was the same job as he's doing now. Which might not be possible. I'm seeing him Saturday so we'll sit down and talk about it then I guess.

Theres plenty of forces up this neck of the woods ruby, and theres plenty of transferable skills he could take to other jobs if the police isnt an option.

That's what I was thinking. There are more opportunities than he realises but I think he's just stuck in his ways. We'll see what he says tomorrow.
