That's really tough, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know what the underlying problem with your foot is but don't despair. When I was at PE College doing my degree, I was told the shin splints would stop me playing competetive sport but technology moved on - the quality of sprung playing surfaces and shoe technology means I played for another 25 years. And some years ago I fell and shattered a vertebrae but in time it fused back together and some years on, while I have episodes with my back, the constant pain has receded and it is a case of managing it. Not sure if your doctor mentioned it but you should have a set of annual blood tests to check kidney function as routinely taking pain relief can affect this. I took 600mg ibuprofen combined with opiates and paracetamol and I still occasionally do. Pain relief has its place, don't let it get you down. It's the initial shock but a bit depressing.
I found TENS was good for me but not sure if that would work for a foot. You can ask to see a palliative care specialist who would have more specialised insight into which drugs work together and which conflict as that is their specialism. Your consultant is primarily an orthopedic surgeon or foot specialist, I am guessing. In Scotland you are well placed to see the specialists you need.
Take control and be assertive!!

Not palliative care but a pain management specialist~usually an anathestist or someone in their team.

Thanks SL - wow, you've been through the wars too!
Just really disappointed that nothing more can be done.... hey ho!
Unfortunately anti-inflamitary drugs are a "no-no" as can't take them due to the Crohn's (along with many other things) - and I take far too many paracetamol so hopefully the new ones may better than that - but not so strong as some others I've tried, that leave you almost zombie like! I've just had to google TENS as never heard of that before:o
He did mention going to the chronic pain clinic too but don't know that much about it so will do a bit of research about what they do etc ..... I have blood tests every 3 months anyway (one of my Crohn's meds is a chemotherapy drug so have to be monitored for that) so I guess that'll be another vial to be taken every time :rotfl:
Good to know I'm not alone ......:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Palliative care is for terminally ill?
Not necessarily - they also treat pain associated with chronic illness. The emphasis is on managing the pain, not curing the underlying condition from the latin word for cloak. I think it depends what your healthcare trust calls it - some now call it pain management because people associate palliative care with end of life serious illness but it is wider

Sorry to hear about your foot :grouphug:
I know what you mean about being in pain all the time. As beanie says it's dire and I'm another grumpy one
Definately see what the pain clinic can offer you.

Awwwww, thanks all - you're all :T
Haven't been in the best of moods today(I did warn my team when I went in this morning that I was a bit grumpy!).
Yup, I will admit to being another member of the grumpy gang when I'm in pain and tired ...... poor DM sometimes suffers the consequences of thisas I can get really short tempered - trying hard to be better at this.
At the end of the day - I'm no worse off than I was yesterday - it was just really disappointing hearing nothing could be done & it'll not get any better than it is.
Huge boulder type thing (well it was probably a stone but felt like a boulder at the time:rotfl:) hit my windscreen on the way back to work after lunch and made a rather large dent :eek:. Auto*glass came out & fixed already:T (they had a cancellation this afternoon) & just so thankful it was fixable as I really did wonder as it was really deep.
Anyway ........ wanting something good to happen soon- Maisie's illness, cutting hedge trimmer cord, defrosting freezer, knackered foot & now my windscreen ....... come on - think I've had my fair share recently!:(
