I would deff keep the money handy rising , it's a long two months and you may need it, if you don't then whack it onto something ... But if your like me you'll need it before feb is done
Yup ... think it's going to be whacked into the (currently empty!) savings pot so it's there if needed.
It's payday :j and itching to go and do all my transfers ..... trying to hold off - otherwise my account will only be in a positive figure for around 6 hours!:eek:Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

So - really need to hunt around for a basic bank account today
I do actually like my bank - it's working well with having the online pots & really have no desire to change at all but there's no branches anywhere near, which means if I need to pay cash / cheques in, it's a PITA
I can send cheques via the PO but have had them going missing before (they send them normal post) and it's then a PITA getting them re-issued ... but can't pay cash in - although you can in England .... where you don't really need this option as there are loads of branches of the bank anyway  grrrrr who comes up with these rules!
I did open an account (several years ago now) with a local bank which has been lying unused (except for paying in the odd cheque) and did phone them a couple of weeks ago to see if online banking was now available with this.
Still a NO - turns out it's a basic savings account that I can pay into at the counter and take cash out the same way or use the ATM:( - useless as not got any way of getting funds to my own bank which is what I need.
So ... need to find a basic account, with branches in local towns and online banking - surely that can't be too difficult (or too much to ask for!):p
Only thing that might be difficult - is that I don't want my salary paid into it - not sure if banks make you do this when you open an account now?Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Ping me a PM and let me know which banks are in your town and I should be able to help!
Thanks:) - I've actually found one & opened itR*B*S
Just a basic one - but that's all I need & I managed to resist the temptation to open a "bigger featured" account (which was offered when I went through the application stage).
It has branches in the town where I work & in the other towns near where I liveso should make things a lot easier :T
Can't believe you can do it all (including the ID) online now  - just shows how long it's been since I've opened a bank account!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Rbs online banking is not too bad, their iPhone app ain't the best, much prefer nwide online banking and app, I tend to use the rbs in my village and just make the occasional trips into the local town for nwide0

Take out of this what you will.
I thinking B can now go into year 1 of degree instead of having to go into yr 2 when finishes HND.

Ohhhh, thanks for that - I knew there were being some changes but hadn't been on their site for a while to see if it was released yet:
"Part-time study The funding available will continue to be a tuition fee grant. However, we will now link the level of grant available to the number of credits you study. This means we can award you support in excess of the current £500 limit. "
Not quite sure what that means - but will def have a look into it in more depth! (I wasn't eligible for any PT support previously)I thinking B can now go into year 1 of degree instead of having to go into yr 2 when finishes HND.
Sorry slightly confused- would he not be better going into Year 2 (less years to do)???
Once he's completed his HND, he should certainly get an exemption on Year 1 and, in some cases, Year 2.
With mine, I get automatic entry to Year 3 - for both Scottish & English Unis, which is where the frustration can kick in (as you need to do 4 years at a Scottish one).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
