I was on POF and OKcupid for some time and just got weirdos, then tried speed dating and hated it! Joined Guardian soulmates and not one message or even a response to any of my messages for 9 months! Was not very good for my self esteem I tell you!

Kept away for about 6 months and then joined Eharmony. First 2 dates were absolutely rubbish. Infact the one guy wanted me to give up my job and move in with him so I could look after his son even before we met up. OH was my 3rd date and I was his first. Moved in together after 4 months and getting married in April 2012. We have been together for 17 months now.

Thing is, I wouldn't have met him if not for the internet. We both don't drink and I can't stand pubs or night outs for that matter. I am somewhat a technophobe. He lived with his mum and I have no male colleagues!

And guess what? It didn't help that I am Nigerian - bloody Nigerian scammers giving us all a bad name. Infact, I put it on my profiles which probably did little to help initially. So goodluck to all of you out there searching and Merry Christmas!

I have come to the conclusion that 90%+ on those sites are fake.

I'd almost agree- maybe 80%

I use POF and Okcupid and the fake proportion is nothing like that high. Both are pretty good at weeding out spammers.

I have to say that after being on POF for less than I week that I'm genuinely pleased with it - so far. There are of course always the people who send out blanket messages to several girls and the messages saying 'hi u r8 wot u up 2 babe', but I've been talking to what appear to be lovely, genuine guys as well and hoping to have some dates over the next couple of weeks. Fingers crossed!

well I did it and signed up but with no photo, just to see what would happen. 1st person to message me was my neighbour - major LOL at that one!!! But then a really nice guy messaged me and I've been chatting to him for the last 3 days I even sent him a photo and he hasn't run a mile yet!!!

Well best way by far is just getting out there. Going to leave pof, I find it easier to chat to women face-to-face rater than send endless messages. Fair play to those who have found on them sites though!

sometimes its easier said than done - all my mates are married or in a relationship so trying to organise an evening out is a military operation of finding out when we are all able to go out and them getting a sitter (or asking the hubby nicely)!

I think I would look a little too sad and desperate if I went and sat at a bar on my own!

I'm in the same boat, most my mates are taken. Probably get out once a month, being single isn't an issue for me (not saying it is for you, each to their own etc) which is why I can leave them sites. But naturally being out I like to think if I saw someone I fancied I'd approach them, eventually haha!
