What do you mean going back on benefits? You ARE living off benefits, and not just that, you are living way above your means. I'm really confused why you think the tax payers should subsidise your comfortable lifestyle and pay all your debts (expensive sky package, expensive mobile deal, almost new car..), because you are choosing not to work and your partner has taken on a job that is just not worth its income.

You actually get 45p per parcel, with an average of 100 parcels a day, obviously it takes time to deliver them and wait for people after finding the address and people like to chatter especially little old ladies who don't see anyone. the rounds are huge and take time in traffic getting from one place to another.
He loves the job. I just don't see how it is financially viable with the car insurance costs and petrol on top, plus you have to have a mobile phone for customers to contact you.

Then he doesn't earn £200 per week. His income is £270 less his expenses (at 45p per mile) means his profit is nothing. As he earns nothing you can claim full housing benefit and working tax credits.

It's not very viable but you will be better off.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Simplified, I am working 20 hours a week to lose £40!
.... Besides which, I don't think my wife could cope with me under her feet every day!

They do have packed luches. It's a 4 mile walk to her school. She doesn't finish school till 3.30 so couldn't walk when the clocks go back as it's too dark and dodgy. the bus brings her door to door.
    How old is she?

My mother couldn't afford the bus fare for two of my brothers (or myself) to get to our grammar school; we walked. Year round. Kept us fit though ;)

Err, he should be putting aside money out of every payment for tax, not spending every penny of every payment he gets then panicking about how he is going to pay the bill.

HMRC are notorious for bankrupting people who cannot pay their tax bills.

    really?

they're gonna bankrupt this bloke too??

    That's tax avoidance not evasion.

Not that it makes it any better morally.

OP - you'll only be eligible for certain benefits whilst you have children living in the home with you. One day, they'll be grown up, and out on their own - your income will take a humungous dive - no ctc, no cb, no allowance for them having rooms in the house for hb - but at least if you are both working now, having to work then will not come as any huge surprise, you'll know how to pay your own way in life etc. There's posts on here nearly every day now from parents complaining of loss of income due to kids leaving school etc., and having not planned on their children ever reaching the magical age of independence, are at a loss as to how to make ends meet.
By working now and struggling through, claiming what you are entitled to claim as previous posters have pointed out to you, you'll be earning more by that time, and less reliant on the benefits you get on behalf of the kids, and therefore able to maintain your lifestyle.
As your OH's time with the courier company he is with increases, he will end up getting better routes, easier routes etc. but only those who work hard for them get them :)

Most councils provide a bus pass for over 3 miles. If she's at senior school there's no reason why she can't walk 4 miles, even in winter. My DD will be walking 3 miles in the dark.
Moving onto a better place...Ciao

only free bus if in school, 6th form or college they don't. Unless the child can get the discretionary bursary.
