Average speed cameras on M1 - less than half abide

I'm not sure I would trust a Sat Nav average speed calculation to be any more accurate than the manufacturer fitted speedo.
I usually set my cruise control at 2 mph over the speed limit and let the active cruise control maintain the correct gap to the vehicle in front of me. I then ignore the numpties who overtake and complain with their horn etc... if they want a ticket then okay, but I do not.
I'm sure lots of people do not understand how the average speed cameras work anyway, I've seen loads of people slow down as they pass a camera, then speed up until they see the next camera, when it's too late and they should expect a ticket :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Interesting. I have been told quite a few timesa that speedometers normally underrecord a bit and are realted to wheel turns so different size wheeks can make a small difference whereas SATNAV uses GPS anbd is extremely accurate. My speedometer shows 3-4 MPH more than the SATNAV. Should I start worrying?0 -

autoexpress ran an article on sat navs verse speedometers, sat navs are more accurate than speedos, speedos dont get calibrated and can be up to 10% out.
On average cameras some people just dont care or even understand how they work, someone came flying past us the other day doing about 80 and then slowed down to only 20. they had them on the A1 in Yorkshire and someone at work did one of the speeding courses and the cops told her that even though they were about 10 sets on each side only 2 of them were actually working at any one time.0 -
Your speedo WILL be under, by a couple % at least. If you have changed the circumference of your wheels it will change even more.
Changed the gearing on my bike and speedo went from being 7% (stock) to 14% out, a speedo healer sorted that out and once calibrated with a GPS is now dead on - I can now tell first hand that nearly all cars are under as when I have it pinned at 70 I will be slowly creeping past most traffic.
As for the excuse that people may be unwell or having car trouble - you shouldn't be on the road in the first place! You are a danger to yourself and everybody around you.0 -

I assume you mean over? ie the speedo will read 70 when doing 65 etc, so reading over the actual speed. If it read under there would be millions of people getting out of speeding tickets saying their speedo was showing the speed limit.0 -
I try to stick to the limit but to make sure I just change into a different lane every time I go past an average speed camera so there is no chance of ever getting a ticket. Works just fine for me.0

Not true! I believe this was the case (or at least in some places it only monitored one lane) but I wouldn't rely on this anymore, particularly when there is an array covering the full road:

What might work however is 'hiding' beside a lorry when going past those yellow temporary ones mounted at the side of the motorway. Obviously wouldn't work for the permanent gantry ones though.0
