  • Maybe I should look into getting a HGV licience. Then get a super wide load lorry. Escorted by a van obviously. Which lane can I be in now? lol

No , not really, because whoever has designed the road markings in this case has completely ignored the highway code. The problem with this, is drivers who are not used to this particular road, and follow guidance used in the highway code.
All roads, road markings and traffic flow should be designed around the workings of the highway code.

It is perfectly permissible to design a roundabout that allows people to go further than the second exit from the nearside lane esp for capacity or other issues. If it is capacity often if you do not do it you find people being fly and doing it anyway so you may as well legislate for it.

The highway code is just a guide to typical conditions. It cannot and does not explain every junction method and layout and as such people should look at markings and signage to decide what is appropriate.

I work in an engineering office and I've rarely seen a highway code, but all the government design guidelines are what we use!

In this instance and in absence of seeing the junction we cannot state whether the OP is right or wrong.

Are there any lane markings on the roundabout itself? (ie: is it a spiral roundabout?)

One near me has people routinely try to do what you're talking about, ignoring the lane markings that guide them off at the 2nd exit!

I also had an accident on a different roundabout due to someone doing a similar thing - three lanes on approach and they decided to carry on around the roundabout from the leftmost lane via the side of my car. Insurer ruled against me, but I'll not go there.

You're following too closely and undertake on the roundabout, very unwise in that situation. I could go out and make videos like you do all day long if I was prepared to drive as badly as you, but I'm not, so despite having a dashcam, I only get about one video worth showing per month.

It's a shame you've learnt nothing since all your other videos where the constructive feedback showed you your errors and pointed out that you drive aggressively, not defensively.

    Chuffing hell...

You are going past what would be considered straight ahead. You need to be in the right hand lane indicating right and then moving over to the left lane as you approach the exit prior to the one you want.

Has nobody in this thread ever passed a driving test?

I was taught to obey the highway code in my driving test, which in this instance states you should be in the left hand lane. If everybody obeyed it then there wouldnt be any issue, this particular roundabout is probably designed in this way to increase flow, but people ignoring the road markings are probably causing even worse problems.

If you think the layout is wrong then it is the council who are idiots, not the drivers who use the correct (LH) lane.

    I'm not on anything.
You've posted another iffy video in public and I am merely commenting on it.

Bad idea to use the horn then too. He could have braked in panic and then you'd have hit him.

Used the horn to warn him of my presence as per the highway code, if the horn isn't for this purpose, then what the hell is it for?

The only thing I did wrong was not using a break off signal, but you'll excuse me if I was too busy trying not to hit him.....

One day he'll do that to a 44 tonne truck and end up wrapped around an axle!!
