I have just had my first book sold on Amazon after 4 hours and I must say im pretty chuffed, well its only £1.90 and I still have to pay for P&P but its a start.

Any hints and/or tips to keep my P&P costs down would be gratefully received and also any info to help make successful sales would be appreciated.

  • hi there nutty - welcome to our thread :hello:

You'll always remember your first sale and the fact the it didn't cost you anything will make it all the nicer.
Your list of book finding venues is good but I'd add local school fairs etc. it is possible to buy from ebay to make a profit so long as you search the book out carefully first but bear in mind you might be still trying to sell that same book in 6, 12 or 18 months time so make sure that you can afford to set the money aside and have the patience to wait
  • Well this is better than expected, yet another book sold, 2 books in 7hours I'd better get a shifty on as I still have over 1000 to list (only 25 listed so far).

  • Hiya nutty

Jumble sales are good too - cheaper than car boots normally but you need sharp elbows and a strong stomach ..
  • iv just sold my first book on amazon and after the sale price of £4.95 after amzon fees i was well happy with this, that is until it came to posting, which cost £4.74, this gives me a total of 21p profit! surely amazon cant get away with having a flat postage fee for books! this is just ..... stupid! why cant they allow the seller to name the price as they do on ebay. what has annoyed me the most amazon are the only winner the buyer made a saving of about £2, amazon made a profit of about £3.

  • I totally agree with you there....

I am just thinking even if I make 20p its all going towards paying my loans and credit cards off early and that is my aim, bloody hard work though.

Amazons fee's are high but .......

Ebay are robbing b******s, listing fee, final value fee, Paypal fee, and then if you withdraw less than £25.00 from Paypal they charge yet another fee - how many times have I been on a loser, to many times to count.

Maybe I can figure out a way of designing an auction site where everyone is a winner in some way.

Just imagine how it felt to pay over £11 to send a book to New Zealand (husband thought we should offer all our books to the whole wide world)...can't bring myself to write down the loss we made on that one.

The flat rate post can really catch sellers out, and is worth keeping in your mind each time you list a book.

I got my first feedback from Amazon today, excellent. Plus I bought some more 'stock' that i came across in a charity shop: Filth by Irvine Welsh (1st Edition P/B in unread condition) and two small hardback books about military hardware, both from the 60s. They were in a 3 books for £1 deal, so effectively 33p each!

And last week I bought a promo CD copy of an Oasis EP that is sealed. This should be good in a few years. I only payed 2.50 for it at a CD fair...

    Here's hoping.

    The notable changes are:

Issue a refund links have been added for Marketplace, Auctions, and zShops orders.

A Report section has been created, and will include links to inventory and fulfillment reports as well as links to view seller performance data.

The Your Seller Account heading name has been changed to Settings to provide consistency with the links appearing under the heading.

Feedback ratings and A-to-z Guarantee Claims are available at a glance on the right side of the Seller Account. Further details are still accessible via the Performance Summary data.

There is a new URL for the Seller Account http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/seller-account/management/your-account.html/

If you have bookmarked your Seller Account, you will need to change the link.

  • I have sold yet another 2 books one of which is very heavy, dread to think how much the postage cost will be on it, luckily the same person bought both books so hopefully it will balance out a bit.
