This week I was searching Bloomsbury web site and signed up to join their buyers/mailing list(which is free).By doing so,you have access to the results of previous auctions.I found this a very useful tool as you soon learn about values of items which you may have previously overlooked. There also contains a list of future auctions, which may be benificial to some fellow members.

    Kind regards Debbie
  • I'm not sure about the 2 books you mentioned, maybe someone else with more experience of selling 'off amazon' will help out. I only sell on amazon really, apart from no-hopers that I put on GM where they sit and rot!

When a buyer is wating there will be a message on the page you fill in when you list, it will be top right of the page, it's so long since I saw one that I'm having trouble picturing it! :o
It will give you the average price that the waiting buyers are willing to pay. You don't have to list at that price of course, you could go even higher because it's possible that if the book is SO popular there may be some people that haven't officially requested it that will pay more - if it doesn't work you can always come down again
Hello, This is my first posting on Martin's website and I hope that you will not mind me asking a question of you, as your postings are so interesting and informative. You mentioned in this thread about pricing books that are not already for sale on Amazon. I have a paperback, wildlife book, printed in 1998 and originally costing £4.99, which shows up when I key in ISBN details, but I am told that there are no current Marketplace offers. I searched on Bookfinder but no details came up. I just wondered what price I should list my book at - the £4.99 original cost or a little more? Thanks in advance to you and any other kind person who can give me a bit of advice.

Welcome to MSE, Bonnie's Mum.

The beauty of Amazon is that there are no fees for listing books that don't sell. For that reason, I would list the book at a higher price than the original RRP and sit and wait.

If the book doesn't sell after a couple of months, then I would start to reduce the price. You can edit the listing at any point so there is no reason not to start high and chance your luck! (Unless, of course, you are desperate for a quick sale.)

Good luck. You'll soon be addicted to selling on Amazon, like the rest of us! :D

Hi and welcome to the thread

I would probably price it higher than £4.99 if it is Out of Print and not available direct from Amazon.

Some OOP paperbacks can go for £25-£50 if they are sought after, they tend to be hard to find novels. Not sure about a wildlife book if the same information could be found in an alternative book.

You could always start high and drop your price if it doesn't sell, but if you list at £4.99 and it sells quick - you'll never know ....

Hello, I have a query and i hope you can help.

I have tried to list a book on amazon, typed in the ISBN and the hardcover version displayed, whilst I have the paperback. The 2 ISBN numbers appear the same for hard and soft covers, and I was expecting that they would be different. I do not want to mislead by posting a paperback with the hardback copies, any advice on what to do?

    thanks

    Moor
  • Hi moor, welcome to the thread

This sounds like an Amazon error, if you look on the page you'll see a link to 'update product info', this is so that you can bring errors to their attention and have them corrected, I did this with a book title that was misspelled and wouldn't search, it was corrected within a few days.

Someone mentioned scanning other things in with the barcode scanner. i have borrowed a scanner for lisiting some books, but if someone could help me with how to use a barcode font I'd really appreciate it.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
