Quoted pinkgem from last thread "for anyone interested I think this is correct formula for selling books =SUM(M5/100*82.75)+1.4

M5 is my grid reference for where i entered the selling price so amend as appropriate

£1.40 comes from £2.75 (postage credit) minus 49p (admin fee) minus 86p (selling fee)

if you are pro-merchant replace £1.40 with £2.26 as you don't have to pay the 86p selling fee"

I used this formula too but found it doesn't always work exactly. Apologies for slipping in total nerd level but I hope fellow nerds may appreciate it!

For example book price £1.10 using this formula should be £2.31 after charges (for non PMs) but Amazon gives you £2.30. I've given up banging my head against excel sheet to find out why but if anyone does happen to know the answer then please tell me as I'd be curious to know. Other anomalie prices are £1.30 and £4.30.

....yes I know I should get out more! :o

The problem seems to lie in how they round their calculation of VAT (ie always up). This will sometimes collect an extra penny.

woo, there goes another one! £2.85.. All my old A-Level books are going, not for much sadly..need people to buy my Uni books since they're more expensive

I still think the Fees Amazon take are a bit steep :< £1.44 this time
  • As its a regular discussion topic on here I thought I would share my jiffy bag experience with you all, prepare to be bored !

Ive found a seller on ebay (ljmachnik) who sells white maillite bags that have a size chart printed on the addressee side, and have an eagle on the back.
I paid £9.24 for 100 size 1 180 x 260 mm (DVD size) and received 100 stickers free. The stickers arent thick enough as the size chart is still visable so Ive now started to print the buyers address on a4 paper and sellotape this on the front and have used the stickers as a return address label. This looks so much more professional than my handwriting (even though it is neat)

Ive found on some books I do need an extra layer of foam, but as i was buying the poundshop jiffy bags which work out more at 12p per bag, and the mailite weigh less, It all balances off. (ive also found a huge left over roll of underlay from our laminate floor so thats saved me some more !!)

I was very impressed with the seller i found on ebay although, ive only used them once.

My sales are still random and im up to unlucky 13 !!

  • Hi, I'd like to say what a great forum this is! I've been lurking for ages and thought it was time to register!! I have sold around 30 odd books thanks to this site!! So cheers everyone!

I've just sold a couple of specialised history books through amazon. I have loads on this subject and thought it would be good to include a list of my other books that might interest the buyer, or at least provide a link in an email to my other amazon books. Does anyone know a way to create a list of books and descriptions without me having to copy/paste and type it all out again? Also is including a link in my email to the buyer to my market place items acceptable?

    thanks

anyone know the answer to this?

I'm not at all techie so my solution would be just to print off a list of the books and add it to the package, I think that the link to the list in the thank you email would be OK, can't see why not - that's my best shot...

I think someone mentioned the delivery service on ebay for heavier items, I have just purchased the 10x10kg for £38 valid within 28 days and am just about to package five of the items. Works out at £3.80 and the Royal Mail charge would be £4.74 so will save me some money.

I have used the seller for single deliveries so will post on the service received for 10!!

I'm still wondering how he (or I) will keep track of the amount used as I'm terrible at organising.

I wish Amazon had a "dispatched" button on transactions like Ebay which can be updated as soon as item posted for my own records as I'm normally selling the same books (on Adoption) and have been known to send the book out twice!

I tend to rely on emails and keep them marked as unread until I've parcelled up and sent the book and then mark as read, that way I can immediately see any outstanding orders

  • Thought I'd pop on and say hi, long time etc

I havent been selling much recently but decided to wade through my stupid CD collection, listed a load on saturday and have sold 3 already

So I recommend going through your CD collections too - but Ive worked out its not worth selling any worth less than at least 99p, so down to the charity shop with them

  • I have been trying to find a way to access the fabled 'buyer waiting list' and cant...even Amazon customer support haven't got back to me. I'm a pro-merchant but dont see it anywhere.

Can someone point me in the right direction please?
