What is it with Shoes?

Whenever I watch spendaholics or programs about debt I've noticed that alot of (mainly women) people have a "thing" about shoes? What is this about? Does anyone have any theories on why people get addicted to shoe shopping? Are you addicted to anything like this and why do you think you do it? The women in this weeks spendaholics was addicted to clothes for her 7 year old daughter because she had a poor body image herself....

As a woman I am at a loss with the whole shoe thing. My shopping addiction is books!! I could spend forever and a day in a good bookshop. :rotfl::dance:One good turn gets most of the duvet!! :dance:0

Mine was books as well (though I'm a man). Now I've got rid of over 80% of what I had - and there are still a lot! I ration myself now, and use libraries a lot too.
I suspect there is some kind of addicition going on no matter what it is. For me, it's anticipation of reading something enjoyable but also something about the 'feel' of books, and very often it's also a 'collecting' thing, so authors or subjects that I like.Retired in 2015.

I absolutely don't get the shoe thing, even as a female. First of all I don't have any space for loads of shoes. And secondly most of them have such ugly heals that I wouldn't want to wear them anyway. I have one pair of boots which I have worn virtually everyday, as they are great for chasing my children in!

I don't have a thing for shoes, despite being a girl - but i do think i'd quite like to have more pairs! I do enjoy looking at them in windows on the way to work, but it's always comfort factor that puts me off, rather than expense (luckily!). I wouldn't mind a walk in closet, a 'la Sex In The City with loads of shoeboxes in, just for the hell of it though.
I have 4 pairs in total though, which is plenty.0 -
I absolutley love shoes. I have over 60 pairs. Nowadays I either ask for them for presents or wait till the sales. I don't know why i love shoes, i just do!

I can't really understand it, but I think I could spend a fair bit on shoes if I had the money, but probably no more so than other sorts of clothes.
My gf however is quite into shoes, she doesn't have too many, but I have to drag her past certain stores whenever we're shopping. I think the gender divide is honestly just because women have more reasons to want different shoes. I have three pairs, one for work, one for play and one that's smart enough for work, but fun enough for play, to take up the slack.
Women, on the other hand, because they wear so much different stuff (skirts, dresses, cropped trousers, trousers, jeans) need more shoes in order to have something that "goes" with each outfit. Plus women are generally more into colours than men. Pretty much everything I wear is earth shades or blue (for jeans), so black or brown shoes will go with pretty much everything I own. The gf, however, wears a host of different colours, so brown/black wouldn't work with all of them.
Finally, women care more than (straight
) men about their outfits matching nicely, so naturally they're more likely to buy a pair of shoes to match their new dress than a man is to buy some to match his new pullover... 0 -
I confess to the shoe thing - although I have dramatically improved!!
Growing up my parents never had much money so shoes were only what was needed for school - one pair and a pair of cheap plimsoles or trainers. Occasionally for a wedding or something special we would get a new pair of shiney shoes for best.
So when I started work, I could buy shoes that I liked, that didn't have to be worn every day. shoes that could go with just one outfit and that would be fine!!
Then it got to the point where if I had a bad day at work I went out and bought a pair of shoes because they made me feel better. Running up and down stairs in the office to you boss and back to your desk, seeing nice shiney new shoes on your feet makes you feel it might be worthwhile!!!
I no longer work in the town and so can't do the whole shoe thing like i used to. Plus I realise that actually you can wear one pair of shoes with quite a few outfits - you don't have to have a colour match for every item in your wardrobe!! :rotfl:Newlywed at the point I joined the forum... now newly separated0 -
I have a few pairs of heels I nicked off my sister which were brand new in the box.
Otherwise Ive got 2x pairs of trainers one bought by OH for last yrs Xmas ( look knackered now mind) and a new pair I got from the adidas factory shop for 7 quid. Ive got some flip flops & when Im in the house some slippers.
I need some work shoes, but Ill get the cheapest, decent pair I can.
Ive never got this shoes & bags thing. But I did used to collect CDs and be mad with them, I now listen to internet radio which is so much better! And free! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0
