  • In response to your rude post, I am new to eBay actually, not an ex seller on there.

Have been selling on Amazon and Playtrade for years doing very well. From what I have heard eBay will not give me anywhere near as many daily sales however I am giving it a go now to see for myself.

eBay has a reputation for being a marketplace for peoples old tat, this is just the presona of it. Whereas Amazon has always been seen as 'the' marketplace to sell on.
I've just put 'old tat' into search on eBay and got 4 results, three of which were nice items about Sylvester and Tweetie Pie, you know,

I Taught I Taw a Puddy Tat :rotfl:

'From what I've heard' etc Have a good look at eBay to find out for yourself what kind of marketplace eBay is.

basically for anything else especially collectables, cult items costume jewellery, packaging, odds and ends I never ever think of using Amazon or Play- I go straight to ebay.

For this kind of stuff yes as the likes of Play do not even list these items and adding a new item to the catalogue is pointless as without hits it would never come up in a search.

Again, guess it is from my background with CD, DVD and electronics.

Same was happening with me, I was 0.01% off being back at standard and bang!!! suspended for life now I would expect the same to happen to you any day, but good luck.

I am 0.1% off. What were your star ratings at the time and what timescale did you improve over? Oct 20th is my 6 months mark - maybe you are allowed only a certain amount of time.

Seems wierd they wait for your account to get back on track and then do it. But then this is Ebay we are talking about. Many people get thrown off when their account is in good standing.

My paypal account was once frozen many years ago - and after 6 weeks of jumping through hoops - it took one 'letter before action' to get it unfrozen. But i won't be jumping through any hoops any more. I treat Ebay with the contempt they deserve - and i am more likely to be removed for my colourful choice of language when speaking to the clowns.

A few weeks ago a buyer used an address that did not match his postcode. I politely informed the buyer and refunded him - and asked him to correct it and re-pay. He did, and he had his item within 3 days. I also informed Ebay - as his address said confirmed. I pointed out that some ebayers 'retaliate' for the smallest things - and what should i do if he did. They said to get back to them, and they will act to help me. Forward 4 weeks - positive feedback BUT 1's across the board. Fortunately, free postage meant he could not knacker my below standard category. Ebays response - nothing to do with us guv - feedback is an important platform blah, blah, blah. Just what you expect from a company that demands the best from sellers - but then as the standards and morals of a cowboy builder itself. My first 1 or 2 ratings in 6 months - and they are for helping keep Ebay safe. You couldn't make it up. My p&p only went below standard in the first place, cos i started using tracking - and did not know i was being marked down for the extra postage cost. And who told me to use a tracked services in the first place, to help keep ebay safe and improve the buyers experience - Ebay and Paypal

So basically a very limited market so not really a contender for ebay at all which is more of an open market place where at some point or other all sorts of stuff gets traded.

What's the lowest DSR you can have before they restrict your account?

The general consensus used to be 4.6 was dodgey ground and began a risk of suspension unless improved.

Lowest i have been is 4.7. My lowest now is 4.88 (others 4.98, 4.96, 4.92). Still not good enough in Ebays eyes.

The expanded dashboard is much more important than the overall stars. There was someone on the community boards in the last cull of under performing sellers with 100% feedback and 4.8-4.9 across the board but suspended purely on expanded dashboard results.

True, I'm chancing some varied items though.

True, but i'm just wondering if BOTH come into play.

Maybe my stars being above 4.7 is the only reason i'm not being restricted - despite being below standard for coming on 6 months.

Trying to make sense of why some go and not others - but maybe its a lot off different things that trigger it.

I'm just glad it was p&p in my case - as its the only one you can gaurantee no more 1's or 2's - by offering free p&p.

Hmm, that is a possible explanation, maybe it takes more than one trigger to set off suspension alarms?

Mind you - that doesn't explain why the poster you mentioned went - if his stars were all good and 100% feedback.

Maybe he was still declining, and you have to improve every month.

Opened cases probably carry a lot of weight too - not had one for years. Then there is policy compliance.

Gonna clear it before next review on October 20th - just decided. I got a bit lethargic about it - as i was expecting a sanction - but it never came. So no point letting it drag on, when just 18 sales will clear it.

Trying to work Ebay out is like trying to understand what goes on in Rooneys head.
