I've been selling on Amazon for about 7 years now but as the majority of my sales are not new items it is not possible to list them there with any degree of success. The collectable items I do list show much higher prices on Amazon, but never sell.

Until last year I was also a pro seller selling mainly books, but with a small stock of DVDs, CDs and toys- but the book market completely died for me last Autumn and I have more than halved my stock on Amazon now and given up pro membership. I currently hold a stock of around 750 items (again 95% books) and sell maybe 8 items a month.

Ok, sorry. By default I just assume people sell new and not used. Maybe the issue is with used then, I couldn't say as have never tried shifting used items.

I suspect that is why there are so many differing views. I deal mainly in the antique and collectable market although my bread and butter sales at the moment are new goods which I have listed on both ebay and Amazon (and ebid)

I tend not to hang around in markets once they die out, hence me getting out of books last Autumn and i fear antiques are going the same way.

You're right, nowhere near. eBay hasn't earnt the nickname 'fleebay for nothing. It's become a bit of a general joke. Businesses sell on there as a sideline, it is certainly not a main channel of revenue as noone uses eBay anymore in comparison to the others. It had its day and should have died a death by now. I'm honestly surprised it is still going.

What fantasy world are you living in then?

My account became below standard 6 months ago, as i didn't know anything about 1's or 2's being counted up - until it was too late. I just saw the stars and thought it was great - my lowest was 4.7 and my highest was 5.

Then the dreaded email - improve or be restricted.

But 6 months on, and i'm still below standard - but no restrictions. In fact - i get an email every month saying how well i am doing.

So i wonder why some are restricted and some are not?

I'm 19 sales away from going green. Maybe they will restrict it just as i'm back.:D

    ???

The world where eBay is not as good as other marketplaces in general. I already stated this, did you not read it?

Same was happening with me, I was 0.01% off being back at standard and bang!!! suspended for life now I would expect the same to happen to you any day, but good luck.

'General' for you maybe, but not for the rest of us. Your only suggestion about these other better markets was Amazon, and that probably excludes about 90% of people on this board alone.

I don't like all my sales in one venue and i know I should diversify but I am actually giving up on non ebay markets- not expanding. My own website was a disaster, I have shared retail premises and have moved once in the summer as the last place was making me a loss, and I look like pulling out of face to face sales this Christmas.

Amazon died for me last Autumn and my views on ebid are well known. That leaves me ebay dependent unless I can come up with a better idea- or I give up this line of selling entirely.

I read it but you gave no information backing up such a silly statement. All it sounded like was a rant from one of the ex ebay sellers who didn't know what they were doing?

Ebay profits are up they have more sellers and buyers than ever and more daily transaction s. So how do you get the ideas that you are surprised they survived? Please point us in the direction of these other markets.?

I await to be enlightened that's unless its all hot air?

In response to your rude post, I am new to eBay actually, not an ex seller on there.

Have been selling on Amazon and Playtrade for years doing very well. From what I have heard eBay will not give me anywhere near as many daily sales however I am giving it a go now to see for myself.

eBay has a reputation for being a marketplace for peoples old tat, this is just the presona of it. Whereas Amazon has always been seen as 'the' marketplace to sell on.

That may be your perception, but as per my earlier post it is not a general one.

On any TV programme (or in the novel i just read) if someone wants to sell something they 'ebay it' , it is almost treated as a verb now. Did you know for instance that Amazon used to have a auction site like ebay but they gave it up and went to fixed price items only

As for buying if i want a book I tend to try Amazon first , but basically for anything else especially collectables, cult items costume jewellery, packaging, odds and ends I never ever think of using Amazon or Play- I go straight to ebay.

So we get a new seller on here with clothes to sell, or childrens toys or small odds and ends- where will the majority of people tell them to try listing first?
