Well don't know about WWII, but my grandfather was a father of 12 and the neighbours felt sorry for my grandmother. They apparently had a whip round and bought a reusable condom. He was apparently disgusted at such a gesture and I doubt he ever used it.

What date am I talking about? Well my mother was the youngest and she was born in 1913 so we are talking before WWI

Wow, I thought they only used the 'are you going to sleep or what?' method!!!

I was talking about this with DH last night and he reminded me of the advert during the aids campaign and there was a mature couple and he had a long thin cardboard box with a errhm in it and he called it his geronimo and it was washed out and reused..... gross..

Jeeze, when I read that I thought you meant you used the tooth brush to clean - I had to go back and re-read it a couple of times :rotfl:

Well, they do get used for cleaning, but only after I have used them on the pearlies for a couple of months!:D

I remember that, I'm sure they showed it at my school  ... the 'geronimo' was a huge, baggy thing though. Can't have been very secure.

:D A running gag in the immediate pre-Pill era was that a wise girl always took an asprin with her on a date.

Why? Because you could substitute a lost stud on your suspenders with it and it also doubled as a contraceptive.........you kept the tablet between your closed knees and it worked a treat....;)

We talked a bit about grocery costs earlier on in the forum..so how much do you spend on food?
And how many of you to feed?

    This question goes to everyone...

approx £50 a week for me, a 2 yr old and 3 cats + the garden birds (food and loo roll and anythign else I'd need)
    1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
    10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
    50p: Christmas presents £3.50
    £2: holidays £2.00

My OH and i do our own shopping though we live with parents, its easier as i am a very fussy eater, and we spend roughly £80 per month, for two of us, just on food, and that generally includes a takeaway once a month, all the whoopsie shopping (i am quite addicted) and glitches (just on food).

We do buy our own toiletries, which we only buy once a month and that is normally £10 if not just under, usually from the pound shop.

But the only things we do not buy are washing/dishwasher products, however, i do buy them for the house when we see an offer.

    So that's £216 a calendar month.

I spent £130 for me and my dog...but now I share the cost with my lodger (we go halves on food bill) and I spend £180 (so £90 each). That includes flowers, batteries, stamps, stationery as well as food, toiletries and cleaning stuff.
Even when you feel like you have nothing, someone else has far less. Find them and help them. You’ll see why.....

I think there's a thread dedicated to this very question. Have a look for 'How much should you spend'.
