I pick up money found on the street which then goes into one of my many change jars (these used to be used as spends but now they go to the credit union). I use bubblewrap on some of my double glazed windows because I think(know) there is a draught around some of them. Rather than use the expensive halogen bulbs in my flat, I have resorted to using a lamp containing an energy saving bulb and I have a rather posh lamp that takes 12v bulbs:cool:

I have made soup from fridge forages (old veg), I can make a chicken last for several meals and the carcass is boiled up and made into stock/soup. I eat my leftovers the next day.

I have started keeping scraps of stale bread in the freezer, I aim to use these as the basis of a summer pudding using the stewed apple and blackberry mix that I made a few weeks' ago.

I constantly shop from the whoopsie shelf and often exchange luncheon vouchers for shopping..once I got £15 of food for 40p because that was all I had to pay:cool: I coupon like mad.

Another thing that I do is that I buy the smallest tins of spuds from Sainsbugs and can make one tin last for at least 2 dinners:D

Apart from the person who 'minesweeps' the only other moneysaving idea to bother me is the people who blow their nose and then use the other side to wipe their bums. You really should not be doing this, as you could transfer the germs from your nose to your privates, which could give you a nasty infection. I remember years ago being told that it takes 10 sheets of toilet roll to prevent the transfer of germs - i prefer to use less paper and wash my hands with soap than waste all that paper, but if that is true, im surprised if the people who have been doing this have not ever had some sort of infection down there.

    I got a new one....just remembered.

I buy the old fashioned cotton mops...
I have had my current one for years and it looks like new.
How does it look so new you ask?

I put it in the washing machine (after removing it from the handle of course!)
when I am washing rags and cloths etc

I've been testing how many times I can re-use one teabag today :) have got it to 4 cups so far, dare I try for another time?? Probably helps that they are Tes*o Scottish Blend ones so probably stronger than other brands might be.

Away to put the kettle on!

No good to me though, as I like really strong tea! LOL!

I used to have a friend who did that....used to store used t-bags in a mug next to the kettle..
they used to go mouldy and she still used them!! YUK!

Another mean thing that I do is when I am out and about and I have a coffee somewhere, I always pick up more sugar sachets than I need, I put these spare sachets (and salt n pepper ones) into an old empty coffee jar and use them when I go camping.

When i wash my hands or need to run the tap for some reason in the kitchen, i collect the water in a bowl and use that to rinse plates off.

I collect the cold water when I'm waiting for the hot and use it to water the plants. Must start doing it with the shower too!

    love your terminology......!

when I was visiting clients, usually 2 per day sometimes 3, I always asked for a coffee and use the loo before leaving and wondering off to my next client. when I was going through a really desperate patch, my local arts centre would leave the nearly used up loo rolls on top the loo cistern and I use to take 1 or 2 a week. I thought they were there so you could help yourself ..........
