When I slice tomatoes (for whatever reason - sarnies, salads etc) nobody ever really wants the two end bits ( plenty of excuses - don't look nice, not as juicy etc etc) so nowadays I freeze them in a small bag. Whenever I have enough I use them for soup or tomato based sauces.....

I may be doing my most embarassing thing right at this moment, it's been freezing here all morning, and I just heated up the steak and kidney pie I bought reduced yesterday as a treat for the dogs...and I'm eating it for my lunch! :rotfl:

The one thing I do do, is freezing herbs before they go off and then just snip some off straight from the freezer into whatever i'm cooking - pop the rest back in the freezer! Makes dill and coriander and other strong herbs last for ages. I also have a plastic thing from Lakeland which keeps herbs fresh in the fridge door for ages....

Thanks. I've been wondering what to do with all the herbs I've been growing on my desk. The basil forest is taking over but I really can't face any more pesto at the moment. The sage hasn't realised its number is up in a couple of weeks when I get the cheap pumpkins on 1 November and turn it into soup with them. However, I want to cut both back to encourage stronger growth and can't bear to throw any away! Also wondered about freezing them in ice cubes. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Basil is an annual, once it's flowered it's basically done it's thing, so you should be able to keep it going for quite a while if you keep pinching the flowers off as they form. Sage is a perennial, cutting it back to make it bushier should be fine.

I have frozen pesto...so you could make more pesto and freeze that. I must admit I've never tried freezing either of these herbs as they are. Only ever frozen parsley...but I never think they are quite the same once they've been frozen TBH

I've been testing how many times I can re-use one teabag today :) have got it to 4 cups so far, dare I try for another time?? Probably helps that they are Tes*o Scottish Blend ones so probably stronger than other brands might be.

Away to put the kettle on!
Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!
