You sound like a car dealer yourself if you reckon a door 2cms higher than the roof is a 'minor Problem'

Depends why it is 2cm higher than the roof.

It can be minor or major, equally.

Why havnt you taken the car back for the dealer to repair? Thats your first port of call.

Did you actually look at the 'used' car before you bought it?

The dealer is far from where I live. Plus, I need to know where I stay before I get back to claim for something.
Nobody I think is happy to be fooled twice, right?

    Looked, inspected but unluckily:
    - I had a checklist that was for that model but not complete
    - I wrongly assumed the dealer was (ok trying to make money) but not trying to sell me annoyances.

Plus, if you're by yourself when buying a car, it's easier to make mistake. Not everybody is lucky enough to have someone to help nextdoor.

Firstly, tell us more about the price / age / etc of the car you bought.

    Price £2900 (not £500)
    age: 7 years

Secondly, lets look at the problems individually :-

the diver's door does not fit properly (when closed it is a few cms higher than the roof - compared to the other

May well just need adjusting. 10 minute job.

I am not sure about it. The garage I took it for the check suggested to get rid of the car. It's an opinion, I agree, but then it needs to be repaired properly. and if it's not been done once why should it be done later on? I am afraid that coupled with

the door has also a crack between the inside and outside.
? Not sure on this from description but resolvable.

The outside painted part and the inside part are different. there's a point where they connect and this is cracked.
and the fact that there's something inside the door scratching the window each time it goes up and down, it's gonna be more than 10 mins job.

The other major problems are that the boot doesn't lock, the passenger's seat doesn't slide easily
Needs the runners greased. Booklock possibly siezed - does it work off central locking?

It has been already greased when I went to purchase it (as I pointed the issue). But less than a month it's no more working.
boot is from central locking, no keys. it's something electrical and probably the small electrical engine needs replacement. It's a common fault with this model.

Seriously. There is probably a couple of hours labour and maybe £10 cost here.
WHY did you simply not drop back to the dealers and ask them to take a look?
ALSO, NONE of these sound like anything other than wear and tear on a used car.
WHY are you wanting to make such a big fuss?
Your approach so far seems like a fantastic way to get the dealers back up...

I am not an expert and I don't know what works need to be done to bring the car at the level I was expecting to buy it for - The price is for a fully working and good conditions for a car of same make, model and miles!

The big fuss is about not being tricked again. Not being an expert I could be sold anything - like saying that the door is just wear and tear! When it's clear that it's a major problem, not simply for the 2 cms, but also for the fact the repair has been made by somebody's granma. You'll agree with me that the dealer will not take the car back and repair it as new. Will of course be the cheapest job he could do. I need to safeguard myself from going into an endless repair-complaint-repair-complaint situation. I am perhaps too picky but when you pay more than £500 for a car you're less happy to take defects - for how acceptable the defect could be for a used car.
Getting in touch with a garage helps to understand what is or not a real "problem".

I am sorry if I might sound bitter but it's really annoying!

    Thank you,

Especially when it hides major problems!
Also, when it rains it might mean that the water will not drain correctly and therefore start dropping etc..

What major problem is it hiding and why didn't you spot it before you splashed the cash?

You can't request a refund straight off. You have to give them the option to repair it, if they can't fix it they can replace or refund you.[/B]

the buyer is entitled to reject the good if they feel there's a breach of contract meaning the good is not

    - fit for purpose
    - of satisfactory quality (given the age, mileage etc it should satisfy an "average" person)
    - as described

the likelihood of rejection depends on how long the person has had the vehicle for (i.e. has accepted the good). That's why it's important to stop using the vehicle as soon as the issue is found.
Then it's up to the good will of both parties to resolve the issue friendly. I guess major the fault, more relevant the rejection is.

if the terms have expired (I read on a law forum after 1 week) then the seller may refuse the rejection and propose something else.
Otherwise, the buyer can ask either for repairs or substitution.
In the guidelines for traders and on the consumer guides they put replacement or refund in the same paragraph without confirming which one should come first.

of course, if the repair is not possible (e.g. too expensive), then the seller can try and replace or refund.

For future reference, take a look at the office of fair trading website and in particular the guidelines/checklist for the car traders

As far as I can see they have done everything correctly by offering to repair it. If you do take them to court you won't win, as they done what is requested of them under the SOGA.

I agree that they are dealing with it by manual/correctly.

I am not going to take it to court as it is pointless at this stage (also because you need to prove that you tried to solve the issue before resorting to the court).

I just need to make sure they are not going to play around this for too long. I have a life outside of this issue - or at least I'm trying to have one!

As the car has not been used since they repair it nobody had opened and closed the windows, hence there were no scratches when I splashed the cash.

How much did you pay for the car?

    less than £500?

Lol, I wish! probably that was the price at the auction they got it from!

Has this car been in a crash and poorly repaired with quite a few things out of alignment and 'crack in door'? poorly fitted new skin.

Completely agree with that. Plus being the rear suspensions different one to the other makes me think it has been in more than one accident.
The garage let me notice that in some places the paint has been put on the body and looks slightly less lucid.

I will anticipate the question "Why didn't you notice that?"
Simply cause dealers use to pass the car with some products that make the body brill and shine. as soon as you drive off it comes off and shows the defects. Like waking up next someone who uses lots of make up.

So, suggestion, use all your senses when looking at a used car.

    Thanks,

To be honest they`re all very minor problems of a used car and as suggested earlier easily fixed.
They must`ve been apparent when you first viewed the car and should`ve asked for them to be rectified before accepting the car.

sure they're minor in comparison to a engine or mechanic fault, but still are faults (non-satisfactory quality of the good, according to the law). I agree are easily fixed - it's the hassle to get it recognised and fixed that is annoying me.

If you know where to look yes.
According to the office of fair trading one who is not an expert can only spot cosmetic defects such as scratches or dents that are OBVIOUS.

In this sense the law is blonde proof..
