  • Having an absolute nightmare with vodafone and hoping someone may be able to help. We recently upgraded our two mobile accounts with Vodafone, got confirmation etc and delivery date email.

Waited in all day Monday for the delivery - nothing - checked at 6ish and saw online that they had tried to delvier to our old address 20 odd miles away. Checked account and all details our current address, so couldn't work out why. Phoned and they apologised and said they would phone courier - DPD - and give them correct address details, that it was their error, and they would be redelivered next day. Took me 30 minutes on phone to sort out.

Next morning (Tuesday) confirmation text from DPD they would be delivering so I again waited in - again nothing. Phoned vodafone and they had been signed for - turns out they arranged redelivery to wrong address again and the people there signed for. This call ended up taking nearly 2 hours with being put on hold etc until they blocked the two handsets that they had wrongly delivered, reordered our two phones and said that we would get a text in 24-48 hours about delivery. As we had to phone from landline (we actually often have no mobile sig any network up in the hills when home!) it ended up costing £7 in call charges

Today my husband phoned this morning as heard nothing and the chap confirmed they would be delivered today to our address before 3pm. So again I took time off to wait in for them. Nada. Tried livechat (couldn't face another 2hr phone call) and after 20mins get told oh I can't actually help you with this you need to now phone. My husband is on phone now as I've lost the will to live with them and I think he is going to cancel our contracts and we'll go elsewhere as this is a complete joke.

My question is can I claim for the two extra days I've had to take off and wait in for delivery plus call costs to deal with this? We've topped over three hours of calls/live chat with them, still no idea where upgrade handsets have even gone this time, plus hubby now on hold even trying to just leave them!

If you were to read the article linked to in the opening post in this thread you will see that you can make that claim.

Here's the link again: This short extract may help:
Get compensation for extra time taken off work

If your delivery's delayed and you have to take extra time off work to await redelivery, it's possible to get compensation. Of course, we're not talking about when you stay in hoping the delivery may turn up, but when a delivery or installation's been booked for a certain day - and you've arranged to be in specifically to receive it.

While your legal rights can only truly be enforced in court, just knowing and quoting them boosts your chance of success. It's also possible to get compensation for additional costs and even the inconvenience and distress caused by late delivery problems.
    ...but read the whole article.
  • I read the article online about delayed compensation. I send the letter to argos but its been a month and i have not heard from them. What should i do now?

Have you tried phoning them to ask them why they haven't responded, or when you can expect a response?

    How about:
"Hello. Please can you tell me when I can expect a response to my letter that I sent you on xx June".
  • Will give that a go.. cheers.. will keep posted
  • Received letter from argos today. Saying thatbthey do not cover the initial date booked for delivery as i would have been required to be there to accept the order.

They wants to issue a £20 giftcard as a gesture of goodwill. My foot..

    What do you guys suggest:
    1. I mail them back
    2. I call them and discuss it over the phone?

You will have read this in the MSE Failed Delivery article:
Compensation would be for any EXTRA time you've taken off

Although it might seem slightly unusual, you can't claim compensation for the original no-show day as you haven't technically lost out through this. You were going to take that day off work anyway; the fact it turned out to be futile is aggravating, but not a loss in a legal sense. The key is what's needed to put it right.

As you haven't given us any idea what your losses are, its unlikely that anyone can suggest whether £20 is adequate compensation or not.
  • On my original letter sent to them, i said that i took an extra day off which as a result would mean £80 claim.for the extra day off and not the original day.
