the word arrest was never mentioned by staff, I was ask to go into there little room. I was detained so the manger in charge at that time of the day (not GSM) could attend, say his peice and leave form fill to other staff member.

    Is this lawful detention ?

    Is this TRUE. !!!!!!!
Yup its true. Not only has it been the case for all the stores I have worked in (M&S, River Island, Topshop/Dorothy Perkins and etc) it was also the case when I was wrongfully arrested and overheard the store detective say to the staff member (before the police arrived) "the £50 should be in your account next week, you can tell that to your mate too". (Police let me go, nothing on file as I not only did nothing wrong, they had no evidence and I was not -as they had told the police, a drug user!).

If its any help, I'm still banned from the store (again, Asda) and was told it was a national and global ban- don't remember too much more as I had one hell of a panic attack- police ended up calling a psychiatrist- I was really scared! I wanted to try clear my name as it were, earlier this year, emailed Asda head office who said I'd have to contact the store detective himself and ask, gave me contact details for the manager. I just felt panic when I even thought about writing or anything so not done anything about it. To be honest I'd be too scared to go back there- the whole thing was a huge ordeal and scared me. I now just don't shop at Asda and would be too scared they'd do the same thing again, it doesn't seem to matter if you do anything wrong or not from where I'm standing.

Watchdog won't give a flying fig about this, so don't waste your time.

You could write a letter to head office, but seeing as you have no proof that you weren't tampering the area manager will most likely support the store managers position on this.

There is a lot more to this story than the OP is letting on. Despite jenniewb's conspiracy theories, stores don't ban for no reason. I have worked in Asda, Morrions and Tesco, and none of them offer cash rewards for catching shoplifters, you'll get a thank you, and maybe a box of the cheapest chocs the shop sells. When a checkout girl stood up to a man attempting to rob her til at knifepoint and prevented him stealing the cash, all she got was a thank you and a bunch of tatty flowers from the reduced stand.

And Homer88, I doubt you're not sleeping or eating, you're just trying to get sympathy by exaggerating, plain and simple. Good luck with getting CAB to care, I'm not sure what legal advice you are expecting as the only person who may have broken the law here is you.

Well done for posting a hewlpful comment, as some seem to forget that is what this site is about.

Many people can only afford to eat/ eat well by buying whoopsies(as many on this site advocate).

OP innocent `til proven guilty, as advised contact the CEO AND COMPLAIN.

Some staff need to understand the customer pays their wage!!(but as a customer it often pays to be polite)

Exactly. Since having another child, who is a fruit/salad/beg monster, without a cheap market or supermarket around, whoopsies at my local co-op has meant he can be. I go in when the lady usually reduces, but if she has not yet, or just started, I eill pop back, or do my other shopping first. The staff have no issue if I linger and will point certain reductions out to me. The usual lady recognises that i.pay her wages, whether I buy full price or whoopsies.

So jennie is a lying tin foil hat wearer. Homer is a lying, probably guilty, attention seeking fool?

If we all acted like you, I'd be calling you a judgmental, nasty, idiot.

OP, it would bother me too and affect my sleep, we are all different, thank goodness. Try write your complaint today, it will lift some weight from you.

I replied 20 odd time on this tread. Only the one before this post have I said about my condition. Hardly going for sympathy. And for your info, I have been to the doctors this morning. I will not tell you what happened, only to say it was not a wasted trip. As my med history has nothing to do with you.

The OP has come to our community for help and guidance NOT for insults, rebukes and arrogance.

I do not want to be associated with your cynical attitude at all.

My other son who has not been banned, went to the as asda tonight. He was challenged, He was asked if he was banned. He told them he had not and was left along.
Maybe watched closely on cctv from distance. When he came home to me, he told me what had happened and why he had been challenged.
We now think (90%) we know which member of staff it is. She seems to have it in for us. I have rung GSM this afternoon. He was there this morning, but out at another store. Told he would be in tomorrow.
I have dreaded ring him today. But now I have this new information, that fear has dissipated.

I personally would not call the GSM and would not mention your son. I really think you should write to the CEO. Keep your other son separate from the issue,.so he may still purchase reduced goods.
