If you are moving to Virgin cable based service and are cancelling your broadband service with BT then a cease charge will apply.
because you are moving to a cable based service MAC codes are irrelevant as they are for BT based broadband suppliers that use the current BT network to supply services.0 -
Unfortunately my son didnt pay his bill on time but paid the day after it was due and AOL cut him off from his broadband connection. He has been trying for the last two weeks to get reconnected and they have come up with a different reason every time and said it will be 1 hour to 48 hours to two weeks, every time he phones he speaks to someone different and everytime they say someone hasnt lifted the bar, they will and it will be back on shortley. He uses his internet for his business and is losing a fortune. He has asked for the mac code but they have told him it takes up to two weeks to get it? Can anyone suggest anything he can do he is desperate.0

My parents have been having trouble with AOL for the past 12 months, their subscription is/was via direct debit but on a few occassions the payment was not taken (bank account had plenty of money in it) and AOL cut my parents connection until it was paid. This resulted in numerous calls to a non British call centre and non Brits with not very good English skills quoting from computer screens, to get things sorted, they ended getting 1 months free rental, but still get cut off due to non payment even though the money is there in the bank waiting to be taken and so on. So Finally my parents have had enough of this and subsequently cancelled their Subscription with AOL and are moving to SKY, Sky asked for the MAC, which my parents had to phone AOL back to get it, only to be told by AOL that as they have already cancelled, AOL don't have to give it and that my parents don't need it. 3 phone call later and AOL are still refusing to give them their MAC number, which is now obviously delaying SKY connecting their broadband. My parents are in their mid 60's and are by no means computer literate but can get by, with the odd call to myself and my brother for help.
I would like people to know to stay away from AOL (owned by the French) as the customer service is not particularly good and I believe to get away from the bad press of Indian call centres, they have started using AFRICAN call centres, where the grammar is not much better !!!!0 -
If the AOL service has already been terminated, there is no need for a MAC, as no migration is required to go to Sky.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi,
I seem to remember an old email from Martin specifying that to cancel Broadband and phone service would carry a mazimum charge of £4 a month for the remainder of the contract period.
TalkTalk have just told me that I have to pay a total of £130.93 to cancel my contract which expires in December.
Can anyone help and any advice welcome.

It's £3 a month for phone only, it all depends which services you have. All clearly set out on the TT website:
http://www.talktalk.co.uk/help/further-help/is-there-a-charge-for-terminating-my-contract-early.html
Looks like you're on TT Plus.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I used to be with talk talk phone and broadband and all they did was lie.
When I rang up and told them I was leaving because they never gave me the speed that I was paying for (30mbps was actually getting 5mbps) also they would never send me a bill no matter how many times I asked for one, as they kept charging me for service when half the time the phone and broadband would be down for weeks on end. They also lied and said I had taken out a contract for 18 months which was a lie and when I pointed out that I had my documents in my hand they tried to blackmail me to stay with them.
They said they wouldn't give me my MAC code and would cut me off so BT would charge me £100 odd pounds to re-connect.
Albeit I rang BT straight away and told them what they said and surprise, surprise I am not the first one to have the same complaint. They said they didn't need the MAC code and they transfered my service within 14 days and now I have just ordered the infinity at only £25 connection at 30.8mbps all other charges will remain the same as the package I am currently on cost the same as infinity.
Talk Talk will not be in my future and thats a promise no matter how cheap they are the customer service is awful. It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun0 -
I've recently moved house, and attempted to transfer the previous owner's Talk Talk BB package into our name. TT lost the paperwork, and despite hours on the phone to TT it seems nothing can be done to rescue the situation. So I have decided to go on a new contract with BT. They will use the existing line but provide a new number. Will there be any MAC issues leading to further delays??0

You can't just swap the account over, you need to start a new account in your own name.
A MAC will be irrelevant with a new number, as it is only used to transfer from one ISP to another on the same number.
There will be a tag on the line remaining from TT, how that affects the situation when the number is changed I'm not sure.
Is the line already LLU'd?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for the speedy reply. Talk Talk assured us we could 'transfer' the line/bb package and even supplied paperwork to do this - then they lost it!!
Not sure about LLU 'd.0
