Another vote for Aldi magnum washing up liquid - but I think the original (green like traditional fairy liquid) is better than the 'flavoured' ones. And it was this one that beat Fairy in the Which survey.
And another vote for triple velvet loo roll, find if I buy the cheap stuff we use loads more whereas with this we use less than if we had Andrex. I buy it when it's on offer in cost co, so 10.48 for 40 rolls (about 26p a roll) and we use 2 to 3 rolls a week on average.0 -
I always found Aldi's loo roll to be good value (the 9 for £1.99) stuff.
We are currently using Bookers cheapie stuff which is great and excellent value, but I know not everyone has a card/or one near by.
I don't 'get' expensive loo paper? I really can't see the point. We get through quite a lot (although much less when my daughter goes back to uni)
I've got a 5l container of Bookers own brand washing up liquid on the go at the moment, which was very cheap...but I wasn't impressed. I think Tesco Basics or own brand are better.
Same with everything though - I'd start at the cheapest available and work my way up the brands until I found something I thought was worth the money!

Just thought id chip in as ive started a diary, and want to praise aldi!!!
After my partner loosing a job, and us having our first child we converted to aldi for buying all our fruit and veg, it is so much cheaper than sumpermarkets, and as long as you look through it all and find the "best" items, they are sooo much cheaper - every week they have offers where items are as cheap as 29p sometime!!!
Think im going to give the washing up liquid a try, i use mr T and im the only one one our house who washes up(arghhh) i am quite frugle, but any save is a save!!!
Good luck, and i'l keep an eye out x0 -

Also toilet paper, I spend a huge amount again on toilet paper, i have the value toilet paper but it just seems to be getting less for more money! How do I save on toilet paper?
Welcome, Welcome
On washing up liquid I *do* buy Value *but* that's because it's only used for washing floors or the odd thing that can't go in the dishwasher. If I were washing dishes with it I'd one rung up the ladder to a 'normal' supermarket own brand. I'm not fussed about it being anti-bacterial as that's not what I grew up with and I'm perfectly healthy.
For toilet paper? Well, I live alone so this is just what works for me. And, for the avoidance of doubt, I'm a female user of toilet paper. I use supermarket value paper for No. 1 type visits. But I buy supermarket own brand moist toilet tissue for No. 2 type visits. I find the value stuff unpleasant and wasteful for these. The moist stuff can be used very sparingly but does a very effective job.
Apologies if I haven't used suitable euphemisms - I don't have time to read the rest of the thread to check as the kitchen timer's beeping in the background!Household: Laura + William-cat
Not Buying It in 20150 -
Hiya,
I've converted to Fairy as well after using value and own brands, it lasts so much longer. Someone said its one of the few branded things they buy and I'm the same.
In passing you also said about liquid soap, a little tip I found on here. Once your liquid soap has gone, try refilling the container with cream bath - around 35p for a litre :money: just give it a try for 35p and see how you get on with it. Its much much cheaper than liquid soap, obviously, and again the anti-bac element isn't needed, its the act of rubbing your hands with soap all over that cleans them.
I've invested in a couple of ceramic dispensers and refill them. I think I paid about £2.50 each from Wilkinsons or where ever.
The wipes arn't needed either. You can use cloths of your choice then just throw in the washing machine with your other washing. As you say, if you can re-use nappies then you can re-use cleaning cloths.
Best of luck0 -
With regards to the washing up liquid - I use value washing up liquid.I don't buy anti bacterial - don't really believe there is a need for it
I brought (from Morrisons) a dish cleaner which is basically a sponge scourer with a handle, and inside the handle you pour your washing up liquid which slowly releases as you wash your dishes. Nowadays I don't squirt washing up liquid into the bowl, and this dish cleaning gizmo has saved me a fortune. You do have to change the heads for it though, when you buy one of the gizmo's, you get two of the heads with it.The opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
I use morning fresh washing up liquid when I can get it on offer, not quite as strong as fairy but pretty good. Ususally find it in home bargains or poundstretcher.0
