I am open to I could be wrong about city firms, but I doubt they will ever give people like Philosophy students a look inside.
They'll take anyone if you've got the skills, confidence & can get an interview.

Not easy, but like any professional job, the right skills, determination, achievements, knowledge of job involved, some luck, maybe who you know, helps as well.

    There's a lot of competition.

well for that fraction of a penny you have probably had your money's worth already, rather before the expected time. We don't know what we've had back from whatever we spent on nearly everybody else here, including you, do we?
Well let's just say you haven't spent to keep me sat on my @rse for four years living limbo life. I've also never misappropriated a traffic cone in my life.

they dont work as hard as nurses i agree but if they have the possibilty to earn big money then good luck to them i say.

they make far more for their companies than they get in bonuses.

anyone who doesnt like it could always try the job themselves!

How do you know that? Do you know what they have to do day in and day out? Do you know the sort of thinking they have to do in a fraction of a second? Can you keep in mind several share values at the same time and work their possible rise or fall in the next few days, and by how many points? Have you ever even thought about the things I'm telling you?

Phil, sorry for being blunt but you need to find the box first, before you can think in or out of it ;)

I am sure I could have a good go at working with share prices.

I know what they want in terms of their recruitment info, they want people who are very highly motivated and highly educated, wide range of hobbies, to name but a few.

They are narrow minded in the fristly as they wont look at you without ace school results.

Phil THAT IS NOT YOU! :o:o:o:o

You are all the time online. You have no hobbies, you are NOT motivated and you make mountains out of molehills. And you still do as mummy says.

Phil in the City? Sorry hun, but I have to be cruel to be kind: You don't have what it takes. I know because I know a lot of how the City works ;)

Rightly so - if you haven't got the drive to do well academically, would you have the drive to preform well for them? I doubt it.

That's not narrow mindedness phil. That's looking for excellence, which is what is needed in the City.

    Hang on a minute...

Phil I was beginning to believe that at last you started a thread purely to debate its declared topic. Now it turns out that you have a wish to be a City worker. So your intention was another me-me-me discussion?

Not that I'm unduly surprised, you understand...;)

Many people could do these highly paid jobs, not everyone, but many could given the chance

Look at the Porsches/expensive cars these people drive.
The skills/knowledge of the engineers/designers/programmers who designed those cars far exceed the wheeling/dealing skills of City dealers.

They are lucky to get into an industry where all that money is floating about.
There are people in good jobs/industries & many outside.

It's the luck of the draw, and 5-10 years on you cannot easily jump ship to one of these highly paid careers.
