ridethelightning wrote: »It cost him £5.58, the numbers at the end are the cost, ie first 20MB cost £0.20, next 10Mb charged at 20p/Mb =£1.95 (roughly), next 17.1Mb also charged at 20p/Mb.
Nothing to worry about, a couple of apps probably updated. Certainly not giffgaffs fault, if you really want to ensure the phone doesnt use mobile data then delete the APN or get an app that turn off the data properly.
If you want to keep using data it would be wise to get a goodybag so you dont have to worry about how much you are using.
I'm not sure that would help, is the inclusive data not limited to 20mb per day?0 -
giffgaff has confirmed with me that I did use 5.58 GB in 16 hours.
Cant remember what my credit was but I put £10 on my phone on the 23rd and it was down to around £1.70ish on the 27th. And within that time I had only send around 10 text at a total cost of 40p. Have managed to find a number for the building that they have there office in.
I also have the notifications and location services switched off. Only use the internet for facebook and email.
I have been with giffgaff for over a year and always got the £10 goodybag for the unlimited internet, but every month I got emails telling me to switch to pay as you go because it would work out much cheaper! This time I decided to try it and look what happens! Feel like I have been cheated out of money!
Really cant figure how they got 6GB!!
so 5500mb for even figures
£7.90 in data costs
that gives a per mb cost of £0.001
so are you still insisting that is GB and not MB?
where are you getting GB from?
is it from that email?0 -

Giffgaff state unlimited internet if you purchase a goodybag, however, I recall reading somewhere that if you consistantly use over 100 m/b per day (which is about 3 g/b per month) they start to look at your usage in case you are tethering to a laptop or something else which is a bit suspect and outside of the contract..
The moral is, if you are using the internet then buy a goodybag.0 -

I read on the GG site
Mobile Internet:
Mobile Internet is charged at 20p a day (up to 20MB). You will be charged at 20p/MB until you use 1MB/day. If you use between 1MB and 20MB you will only be charged 20p/day. If you go over 20MB you'll be charged extra at 20p/MB.
plus on the goodybag section
Is unlimited really unlimited?
The answer is yes, we are unlimited for personal mobile use - but not for commercial and automated use. Mobile Internet allowances exclude PC use and tethering.
I'm on O2 simplicity, which works out much cheaper than GG ever could for my usage, especially as I can use the 'unlimited' internet for tethering if I so wish :cool:0 -
It diffidently is GB have confirmed it with giffgaff.
Still have a few emails that I have which tell me how much I have used in the past.
March 119.38MB
April 93.01MB
July 16.56MB
August 1.19MB
September 39.98MB
Not once did I go over 20MB in a day. Total 270.12 MB in 5 months, approximately 54.02MB a month
5.6 GB = 5713.92 MB,
5713.92 / 54.02 = 105 months worth in a day!
If my maths is correct!
Have never tried tethering! Wouldn't know where to start!0 -

The only time I have gone over 20mb in a day is when I have been tethering, simply plug my phone into my netbook and use it as a dongle, and even then I had to hammer the usage eg from 0830 until about 1730, this month I have used less than 44mb :cool:0 -

The giffgaff charge of 20p per day up to 20 MB only relates to users on payg (where you pay for calls. texts and data as you use it).
If you purchase a goodybag (eg for £10 for the month) then all you pay is £10. For that you get 250 mins of calls, unlimited texts and unlimited data - the 20p charge mentioned above does not apply.
I was with them for quite a while but switched to O2 to make use of data tethering (and cashback from Quidco)0 -
733mb in a year for me.The only time I have gone over 20mb in a day is when I have been tethering
I really can't see how anyone could use over 5 GB without trying, you'd have to be downloading loads of stuff. I don't think it lets you download anything over 20mb unless over wifi anyway.
Can you get giffgaff to tell you what websites etc you supposedly downloaded all this stuff from?0 -

Hi, I don't know enough about the iphone to answer this, but some mobiles can be switched so they become a wifi hotspot.
Could it be a possibility that this has been switched on and someone has been connecting to the internet through your phone ?0
