Preparing for winter III

Oh Old Tractor I could almost pop over to your house for a bowl of soup and my feet propped up on your hearth
I popped into the garden centre on the way home from work and picked up some panisies and small conifers. The cordylines are coming out tomorrow and will be repotted and put away. Then the pansies can be put in. The garden always looks so bare this time of year but I think it's worth putting something in if only to give it a little colour.
DH bought a snow shovel from ASDA yesterday - £8.00 - just for the car only. Colleagues at work are now also getting theirs in. Don't know how long those shovels will last, but nearly everyone is talking about how bad they think this winter is going to be. Some are still blase about it though and saying "yeah yeah we'll see". They were the ones last year who did nothing but moan non stop how "unprepared" they were for it all!!
My Yankee tarts arrived today very pleased with those and the seller on Ebay was great. It's good when you have a decent sellerCat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Sounds like everyones getting there
I will try a crumble receipe making up but using the right amounts, I've got enough to make some mistakes.
I have clothes drying in the wind outside and just had a warm bowl of soup.
I'm looking for a job at the moment and just had a daft converation in which they basically said if you can't get in due to snow you're fired, hang on I'm not even hired yet and I don't think you are the sort of company I want to be working for - no matter how much I want/need to be working!0 -

This is the one I use. I love using brown sugar with apples, gives it a toffee like flavour.

I have two apples to use up, might have to pick up some brown sugar and make a mini version of this. :drool:0 -
Reading Kathy's post aout feeling under the weather (poor you Kathy) reminded me of the witches rew I make when I am feeling really bad with cold/flu like/sore throat symptoms:]]
in a mug put some squash concntrate - blackcurrant is good
add a good pinch of ground ginger and a good pinch of cayenne pepper (good pinches mind)
a teaspoon of honey
2 crushed paracetamol (I do this with 2 spoons)
add hot water
you have to keep stirring while you drink it but its as good Lem sip (if not better)
Also when at work with a sore throat I sometimes chew a piece of root ginger (very small piece tho')
Feeling better now-- thanks for the well wishes ladies!
What is squash concentrate? This sounds like a splendid treatment for sore throat.0 -

Squash concentrate is a bit like cool aid, I've never been able to find any squash in the states. It's concentrated fruit flavoured water that you dilute to make a fruit flavoured drink.0 -
Hi Kathy - squash concentrate is the stuff you make up with water - so 1 part orange (or blackcurrant or lemon etc) to about 6 parts water. Its what you have if you cant afford pure juice (well in this house it is!) Glad you're feeling better.
No prepping done here today- waiting for payday tomorrow and going mad without any tea!
Tomorrow I am definitely doing my last stock cupboard stock up - UHT and tea/coffee and dog food plus ordering batteries from ebay and rain-x windshield cleaner then I think I will be ready.
I am extremely worried about going back to work - not only because Im worried my head/face pains might start again in the noise but also because Ill be going back in the dark and not getting used to it over the autumn. I wonder about those wake you up lights - would it help me with my total reluctance to get up in the dark I wonder???debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0 -

In a word.... Yes!!! If it can help me, it can help anyone. Trust me, I would sleep my life away during winter given half a chance0 -

another vote for those lights. They really are good.
Rainy-Days I wish you lived nearer! You would be very welcome and we could talk horse until midnight.0 -
And another vote, it's a godsend to be woken up by pretend daylight in the depths of winter. We got ours from Bo*ts many years ago.Keep calm and keep crafting :happyhear0
