Preparing for winter III

I popped to Lidls today to get a charger the OH wanted that was on their offers for the week, and picked up some of their anti freeze as it goes to -60, whilst I don't think the UK will see these temperatures, at least my ancient but lovely car will keep on running, well hopefully.0

I remember my dad used to keep the boot heavy in the winter when the roads were icy so that the tyres could grip better.
I have old carpet in my boot, keeps it clean in the summer, and can be put under the tyres if stuck on ice in the winter!
Last year we had a new energy efficient boiler, this year we have finished off the double glazing, so hoping to be frugal with the heating and supplementing with dressing gowns and slippers!!!Taking on the world one debt at a time!!!
Buy my car outright £0/£3300
Buy a caravan £0/£7500
Replace house windows £0/£50000 -
Note to self to stock up on bird seed and fat balls.
I have loads of birds visit my bird table all year and at times last year I had no seed for them which is pretty bad, so gonna get a good supply in.
Also to stick a ball in the bathtub frog pond!1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

I went in Prim@rk on Saturday to get DS1 socks & DS2 pyjamas (1 pair flannelette & 1 pair fleece - see which he prefers to tell Santa what sort to get). On the way out, I noticed boys short sleeved thermal vests - didn't see a price & it was packed, so I hope they'll have some when I go back...
Now wearing my old fluffy socks & keeping my new ones stashed away in case I can use them for my work Secret Santa ;-) - does anyone know where I can get cheap (Prim@rk prices!) fluffy socks for boys & men? Ds2 would wear mine if it was cold enough but they'd fall off his feet, DS1 wouldn't wear mine as they look 'girlie'.0 -

I am on a real mission to be as [STRIKE]tight[/STRIKE] frugal as possible and convert hubby too.
I have now convinced him to share a tea bag between 2 :T this morning i noticed my left over 1 from first thing hadn't been reused and told him off and he said "whoops sorry old habits die hard, no wait, i had coffee" :rotfl:
Hello Chirpychick
I'm also on a similar mission :T and have been changing things little by little for YEARS which seems to work. However I must have gone a bit overboard on Sunday when I yelled at him for washing out a squash bottle for the recycling with washing-up liquid (decanted into a dispenser to stop big squirts being used and diluted down of course!). What's wrong with plain water? Already moaned at fridge being open more than necessary (for every 10 secs opened, it takes 10 mins to get back to correct cool temp apparently) , using whole dishwasher tablet and hottest cycle for no good reason. I have felt a little torn today, still doing my usual, ever increasing pennypinching techniques but wonder if I'm being petty or extreme at times. We are on a tight budget but still have treats (mainly with/for kids rather than ourselves.) Actually I will answer my own questions, I will (need to) carry on as usual but more gently, I am rather bossy when I get going.:rotfl:0 -
Just a teeny contribution before I hit the sack. I have wanted a soft bear for myself for years. Both my little boys have about 50 soft toys (most hand me downs, little gifts etc) on their beds and they are played with and arranged each night. In summer they are relagated to bottom of beds, just couple favs pillow end but in winter boys surround themselves with them plus their old soft cotton baby blankets. I finally got a lovely bear (unwanted gift my sis had) this year and have been curling up with it at night and it does help to keep me warm. No wonder my boys are always warm in their beds! This probably makes me sound a bit daft and soft (well I am!) but no-one sees me in bed do they?!
Off to bed with my ted...night night0 -
