Room very cold, what size single quilt would you use, he's moving into bottom bunk very soon. Looked on all mums sited got ltd info. Worried 4.5 won't be warm enough. Have 10.5 but DD has has 13.5 don't want to cook him or suffocate him. He wears pj's or fleecy sleepsuit to bed and is very wriggly in bed.
You dont say how old he is and whether still in nighttime nappies? Would he fit into one of the sleepbags for kids? You can get thicker ones (all have tog sizes) up to 3 years of age. Sleepbags have arms cut out, and you can provide an extra blanket. Not ideal if nighttime toilet trained though. TBH though my ds & dd came out of theirs into beds at the age of 2 1/2 straight into a duvet. Always used 10 tog or higher in winter as they will kick them off if they are too hot.

Opps sorry: missed your reply #851. Put him straight into a duvet. He'll soon learn to cover himself up if he kicks it off. You may have some disturbed sleep for anight or two as he may come in to tell you his bedding has fallen off his bed, but in the end he'll just get used to it. I used to worry about the kids getting cold, but they soon sort themselves out. Use a 10.5 and give him a blanket if he's cold when you go to bed.If you dont want it - dont waste it - Freecycle it!0 -
Hi All,
This is my first post so bare with me...
I only moved into my own home this year and have never done any prep for winter. Can anyone offer any advice or tips on where to start? What to buy etc
Thanks0 -
Hello - long time lurker on this thread and many thanks for all your tips x So here is a contribution from me and hope it helps someone! Just bought some 'car sun shields' from Tesco reduced from £2.00 to 37p - not for the sun of course (think thats long gone!) but they will make great reflectors for the back of my radiators for the winter months. HTH X0

5,000 packs of free pipe lagging for yorkshire water customers, just ordered mine thanks to captain haddock on the freebies board but thought it might do well to give it a heads up on here.
I will try to go through and thank everyone individually for their advice as am new to this thread and its amazing the things I have picked up already. Off to aldi now to buy some salt in the hope that it absorbs some of the condensation in my living room! with radiators do i need to get that special homebase radiator foil or will ordinary household one work just as well??0 -
