    Bought 3 Yankee candles Thursday. Love the fragrance and well as the light they provide in an emergency.

    I worked my part-time job again this weekend-- not feeling well-- rotten cold, sore throat, cough etc. Taking meds and drinking fluids, hope it doesn't last too long:(
  • More a note to self: Don't forget your kiddies in their buggies - I wont be able to buy a cosy toes big enough for my dd so will have to make her one myself for this winter.
    Just remembered last winter strugging to keep the blankets tucked under her legs.
    1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
    10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
    50p: Christmas presents £3.50
    £2: holidays £2.00
  • Thats a good tip about the fleece under the sheet (been reading back) .. are people just buying ordinary fleece blankets or what?
    What do you use for a KS bed?
    I think I will do dd's bed as she wont keep the quilt on, so thats a good tip I wouldnt have thought of thanks x

    DH & I have been tidying garage. Put away all food stores etc and discovered I have over 20 cans of beans!! 17 litres of screen wash inc some -65 deg stuff. 9 trigger sprays of de icers and 4 cans. Have plenty of loo rolls and kitchen rolls and 12 litres of washing up liquid!!!! Put my air glide luge(never used ) and DD sledge and snow shovel at front of garage along with 6 kg of salt & 1kg of dishwasher salt. DH was a bit sulky about all the stuff and said he would die laughing if we had a very mild winter:mad: Still some things to do on prep list. Yankee candles are lovely, party lite candles are too but too expensive. There is a discount mill place near us that sell Yankee Candles very inexpensively and the lovely accessories, so shop round these type of places. Off now to finish watching an episode of extreme couponing I recorded, DH is gob smacked he said I would be in :money:heaven!:A Night night preppers, keep warm.
    Still pondering over DS quilt dilemma, any further suggstions?

    Singlestep and Lucy5781 can you tell us how you read the forcast on http://met-monkey.co.uk/ I just dont understand this site at all :( Where should I be looking, please?

    I'd go with what annie123 said. To be fair, I'm not terribly sure of these things myself but the blue colours and tightly-packed isobars (?) didn't look terribly promising. That's about the extent of my knowledge.

    I love Yankee candles. Have baskets full of them - mostly the votive sized ones (which can last 14 or 15 hours) or the wax tarts. They really do last ages and, when you find the right scent, are lovely and can scent the room even when unlit. Some do seem to have little or very subtle scents but others are just amazing. I tend to like different ones at different times of the year (e.g. sun and sand and island spa in the summer, cherry blossom in the spring) but I love nearly all the fresh scents, particularly clean cotton. I'm going to use my loyalty card from the local concession to buy winter wonderland and mulled wine ones for December/Christmas. Apart from that, I'm on a self-imposed ban until I've used at least two thirds of what I have now.

    I have the week ahead off. Going to have to:

    *work out what on earth to do with all my leftovers from family meal. There's no room at all in my freezer.

    * get flu jab arranged.

    * find new coat and shoes and boots - now no time to waste as my last two pairs of work-appropriate winter shoes have started to let water in.

    * catch up with family/friends

    * do as much Christmas shopping as possible.

    Thunder woke me around four am this morning and it's still going out there, with ultra bright lightning flashes. Just popped on to say for folks prone to thunderstorms in winter (or anytime!) make sure your electrical equipment is plugged into anti surge sockets. ;)
    Absolutely freezing here this morning too, and hail is hitting the windows. Sheesh.... :(

    Or people in wheelchairs or scooters. I must look a real sight as even when it is mild outside - I am freezing to death on my scooter:eek::eek::eek:
    I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
    Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
    When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    OH and I gave the flat a good clean yesterday and had all the windows open! Looks like it was just in time, too.

    I will have a look in town at yankee candles today and

    *buy a snow shovel
    *finish off draught excluder - I am making one from old cotton shopper bags, stuffing them with OH's old socks:rotfl:
    Keep calm and keep crafting :happyhear
