Preparing for winter III

All the talk of scented candles and wax burners reminded me i had some essential oils in the cupboard. So equipped i decided i could make my own oil burner (my original having gone awol many moons ago). I found a glass, a tealight candle and a shallow plate. Put the essential oil with some water on the plate, tealight in the glass and then proceeded to put the plate on the glass. It was only after the third time that I notice the tealight had extinguised that i realised that a candle wont burn without air! My poor science teachers would have despaired but it made me laugh!January grocery challenge £159.43/£250.00

Just a thought .... if anyone's struggling for "tools" to put food into / get out of their fire - BBQ tongs etc work great. You may still be able to pick some up cheap in shops selling their summer stuff off cheap at the end of the season. HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Problem is I cleaned out the fire thoroughly and have stuck a pillow and cardboard covered in foil up to keep out the draught and had no intention of unblocking it unless I really needed to. Hmmm, this might count as a need!
:rotfl:Yup, if I could think of anything to do them in, I'd be doing one right now.
Also no reason why they shouldn't work in a chimera .....
They're best put not right on top of a roaring flame IYKWIM (probably the same as the potatos).Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Thats what I am using. I have a few BBQ tongs (paranoid about touching raw food with the same tongs as cooked) so now one is allocated to the fireAnd as I don't have a fire basket/grate yet, I have set my fire on an old cake cooling rack

Frugal enjoy your fire.
Put the heating on for 30 minutes to test all the rads were working. Off again now until it gets really cold.
Operation loft insulation finished! Yeh very happy and it is all tidy and clean up there.
Listed DS3's out grown ski stuff on ebay in the hope that people are starting to get prepared for winter. Hoping to raise enough to buy him new snow boots - he has all the rest of the cold weather stuff he needs. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Hot chocolate banana :j
Made these when I was a cub scout!!!
Next trip for shopping will add a few flakes and bananas and try this, some 30yrs after cub camp:jrising_from_the_ashes wrote: »Ohhhhh this has my mouth watering as I've just thought of my favourite "cook on the fire in a power cut" pick me up ........
Roasted bananas with a choc flake in them .... sigh
If anyone's not tried them all you need to do is:
Get a banana & cut lengthways down the middle
Stick a Flake / Ripple etc bar in
Wrap in tin foil and bung in the fire for a wee while
Also works great on camping fires / BBQs in the summer:)
Note to self: never, ever buy another house without a fire in everKnow the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
I bought a flannelette sheet and pillowcase today for DS3's bed. Will see how they wash and if he likes them will get another set.
Half term next week so a week of preparing planned, looking forward to it.

Clinton cards also sell them.
I have 2 super pretty glass burners for the tartlets, 1 Christamssy & 1 flowers, that my boys got me - when we burn the tea light in them with the main lights off, the coloured lights show up on the walls behind them. Smells lovely & looks lovely
Edited to say, the burners aren't from Clinton cards, we have a lovely candle shop in town that most of my mother's day, birthday etc presents seem to come from!0
