[- I took my shoes off, went flying and slammed right in to a door. No wet weather or ice to blame! My eye/side of my face is going to look fantastic and will no doubt spark all sorts of speculation :rotfl: .
Oh no!
I hope by the time you read this you will be feeling better..otherwise keep going with the cold compresses! You have my total sympathy. Take it easy the next couple of days...and ummm...maybe leave curtain hanging, window washing etc to a designated 'house mignon' (every home should have one or at least access to one!)
Take care

Singlestep - what are you like - as they sy hereabouts! Seriously tho' be flippn' careful please and remember socks are lethal on smooth floors (and tights) I always had a rule when the children were growing that they NEVER went up and down our gloss painted stairs in socks - bare feet, shoes or slippers was the rule. I should probably b a health and safety officer or maybe I was one in a former life as I seem to se danger and potential accident everywhere. Anyway - listen to your Aunty Tug!!debt free 2021 at current DMP rate (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0

Can I ask a daft question? I have bought candles, in case they are needed, but I don't have any candlestick, got plenty of tealight holders. So what can I use for candles to ensure that they are as safe as possible. I live alone, so don't have to worry about nippers or anything.A smile costs little but creates much0

Empty food tins/cans are good for candles - just melt some of the candle onto the inside of the can and stick the candle to itYou could make it extra secure by popping some stones or sand in after.
I use this for incense sticks as I can't find my holder - I stick an old potato/piece of fruit that is way past its best into it then stick the incense into the fruit0 -

Empty jars are great too especially as you will get the light through the glass!:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0 -
I made a great draught excluder to fit our door (custom sizes are no problem when you make your own) by using up some old material and stuffing it with basic white rice. Double up the material to prevent breakages if you can and keep it away from material but it's seriously heavy and will be great with draughts.
Total cost: 1.20 in rice, old material = 0. Bargain!:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A0 -
I noticed our Lidl's are doing kids winter ski type clothes on 17th... trip to Lidl's then I think0

I used champagne glasses & bluetacked the base of the candle in place when we had a series of power cuts last year:DTry to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -

Stick them in the top of wine or beer bottles - '80's bistro style? Actually look better if the wax drips down the sides (stand them on a coaster)
Our woodburning stove is up and flaming nicely now and we've done loads of foraging in the woods behind our house for dry logs and kindling. The latest call in our house?
"What wood burns best?"
"FREE WOOD!"
Even my 7 year old DD had taken to picking up sticks on the way home from school to 'help' the fire.
Solar panels going up in a fortnight so that should help with the bills and I'm going to use the electric immersion heater for half an hour (on a timer) during the day instead of the gas water heater so the only gas we'll be using is the gas hob. :j

can anyone recommend a good brand of UHT milk? Or any brands I should avoid? I'd like to get some in for the winter stores but no idea where to start!
I just buy whatever is the cheapest UHT skimmed milk from the supermarket (usually Mr T's "value").
The key is to buy skimmed milk. It's the closest in taste to fresh (virtually undetectable). The full-creamed and semi-skimmed have a funny taste from the cream, which doesn't take very well to the sterilization process. Some people like that, but it just makes me gag.
