Come on you lot - you know - curtain snails - they help to stick the thermal linings to the curtain as well as providing attractive ever changing silvery patterns - EVERYONE knows about curtain snails surely!!!!!!!!;)
Could you provide a picture please as they sound useful but I have never heard of them.0 -

Another newbie here.. been a lurker for a while (shameful I know):o
Today I viciously attacked my patio in preparation for winter. The garden (and patio) were always my Mum's domain, but since she passed away in June from cancer, the whole place has been a little bit neglected.
But in true preparation spirit all dead plants (there were many) were composted, all bulbs were planted, and all roses etc trimmed!
The table and chairs have all been covered up, as has the barbeque.
(I even scrubbed the patio slabs)
Just the Calor gas bottle to put away now!
I'm rather proud of myself at the minute, although it won't be long before my Springer Spaniel messes it all up again!
So HELLO to all you old stylers, winter shall soon be upon us!:eek:Anchor yourself to the foundations of everything you love.
Thank you to all those who post competitions!:beer:0 -

A very warm welcome to you smeeth
Sorry about your MumI lost my Dad in August and he was poorly for a long time before that - the house has gone from bad to worse in that time and the garden... well... it has looked better - not that he did it for me but my head has been so out of sorts that nothing has been done...
Well done you for tackling all those jobs in time for winter :T0 -

Does anyone know if all hot water bottles take the same size stopper, are they interchangeable, and can you buy replacement stoppers? Both DDs had HW bottles as part of last year's Christmas pressies, as I was being so mean with the heating (and will be more mean this year), and they have BOTH lost the stoppers. My bottle was from Boots, its stopper seems to fit their bottles but I haven't tried with hot water!
All my bottles seem to have interchangable stoppers. I had to throw away one old bottle this year so am down to 5 for 3 peopleas I'd bought 3 new ones. I know how I damaged it, by storing with the stoppers in so they don't get lost
, so am using those annoying bits of ribbon you get on new clothes to make ties to keep bottles & stoppers together and bottles empty when not in use.

That headline in the Daily Hell has polarised me more into thinking what exactly is left that we all need to do. I also recall last year that an old lady went to her dustbin slipped and couldn't get up as a result she died of hypothermiaI know it's not always possible but if you can get the bin near to the door so that you open it, lean out, chuck your rubbish in the bin and close your door again without setting a foot out into the snow/ice then that has got to be a good idea!
I have said it before I just feel in my bones we are in for a crap winter and last year was bad enough. This year we are wayyyy more prepared than at any time, but you can bet your bottom dollar there will be something!
I slipped over last winter going to put recycling in the bin - managed to get up ok, but it knocked the wind out of me and the rubbish over the garden. I took my shoes off & went out in just socks to give more grip to get the stuff picked up as they gave more traction.
I have 3 bins which can go out fortnightly, but I put out monthly at the moment as we don't have too much rubbish, but I'll be putting them out whenever I can get them out to be emptied to keep them as empty as possible in case they get snowed into the back garden again.0 -
Have you been doing too much hun?
Sigh .... I don't know ..... I'm supposed to be building up my walking very gradually and I've been really careful ..... but I still can't weight bear on my whole foot and if I forget and do, it really hurts (which might be what's upset it) but I really should be able to do that by now ...... will see what they suggest tomorrow:(.
On a much more positive note, welcome to Sneethand I'm sure I missed someone else earlier:o so apologies to whoever it was & welcome too!
