I'm also tackling the garden. I'm pointing the patio slabs. Sick & tired of the snails coming up through the gaps so I got some ready mixed concrete but boy it setes so fast so I can only do small batches at a time! But it looks good considering I have never done it before! I needed doing yrs ago but after 3 kids the time went thoguh the window!

NOrthLondonchick - have you thought about making it into a rug for your kitchen?

We have a rug in ours where the kitchen table is and it makes it much warmer in there as a result. We have ceramic tiled floors so you can imagine the floor holds the cold in there. It might fray a bit, but, it would be worth considering just to give a bit of warmth underfoot in the winter.

North london chick - you could use it as lining for thermal door curtain (possibly behind an ordinary lining if your OH wouldnt like to see it) or you could just make 'sausages' from it to make door bottom draught excluders. My first thought was slippers too. How do you know its not washable?

Another newbie here.. been a lurker for a while (shameful I know):o

Today I viciously attacked my patio in preparation for winter. The garden (and patio) were always my Mum's domain, but since she passed away in June from cancer, the whole place has been a little bit neglected.
But in true preparation spirit all dead plants (there were many) were composted, all bulbs were planted, and all roses etc trimmed!

The table and chairs have all been covered up, as has the barbeque.

(I even scrubbed the patio slabs :D )

Just the Calor gas bottle to put away now!

I'm rather proud of myself at the minute, although it won't be long before my Springer Spaniel messes it all up again!

So HELLO to all you old stylers, winter shall soon be upon us!

 I`ve bought these and put my kitchen curtain rail up with them, the rail is up but i`ve not put any curtains up yet.

I`ll have to keep a close eye on them when they do go up.

Hi all, just been having a look round Asda and noticed they have snowtrax ice grippers in stock for £8 a pair. They have coils on the front and spikes at the back. http://groceries.asda.com/asda-estore/banneroffers/banneroffercontainer.jsp?listId=1215042341840 Might get myself a pair, last winter I slipped and smacked my head off the pavement in front of one of the neighbours :o. Funny how if someone sees you do something like that you jump right back up as if nothing happened even if you're in agony.

  • Welcome Smeeth, NorthLondonChick, peking and anyone else I may have missed (apologies!) Can I just also dissuade the use of wood shavings for small animal bedding. It's not a good option and can be very dusty. I bought a 20kg bag of wood chips / shavings for the chooks from my local saddlery for about £6, it's properly dust extracted etc. very compact and lasts for ages. Whatever you do don't buy those daft little bags from supermarkets, pets at home etc, they're terrible value for money. Anyone in my local area who needs some give me a shout and I might be able to point you in the direction of a few horsey retailers - they're sometimes difficult to track down unless you're horsey :D

Just going to walk down to Lidl to have a look at their thermal gear, hopefully the fresh air will help my cold :(
  • Hi! Not been on for a few days as my back has gone and I can barely move. I've been in bed for the past two days and it does seem to have helped. Its a years old problem that started when I had DS1 and I've tried carrying on regardless, resting completely and have settled on doing a bit then resting a bit :)

My winter prep is coming along nicely I rooted out both sons coats and they are now washed and ready for action lol. Both sons are bu***rs for not wearing coats - DS1 cos it's not fashionable  and DS2 cos he has to carry it round school with him all day as they did away with lockers. I have bought him a decently thick hoodie that he wears underneath his blazer which will fit into his bag easily so hopefully that'll solve it. DS1 I am leaving to it I remember going out at nights when I was younger & my parents being shocked that I didn't have a coat :rotfl: He'll get there eventually.

I lit an insense stick - thanks to whoever posted the tip - and waved it round the front and back door frames to see where any draughts were coming from. The back door was shocking  Think I will get a bus to Lidl and buy a couple of packs of the stick on excluders.

Has anyone got any ideas how to draught proof the back of the letter box whilst still allowing the postman to get the stuff through?

My interview with the place where I used to work is tomorrow I'm just waiting for a phone call to confirm the time. I've got my blouse & suit out and will see if any minor repairs need doing to them so I'mm all spick and span :D
