    Sounds perfect!

I don't blame you, new builds have no feeling in them and are very soul- less, old builds have so much about them, give me an old build over a new one any day of the week! :)
My old newbuild garden was 6ft square with an ugly green chain link fence and was completly shaded all day, now I am minus one bedroom but have 80 foot full sun in the front and 80 odd feet full sun in the back plus an allotment area also, 10 chickens help to keep the weeds down in the allotment, I must figure out what i'm going to do with it as it has a terrible bind weed problem and the chickens big run is located next to it so can't treat it with a weed killer, also I just planted my first bramley on the allotment, so excited maybe for a few crumbles the winter after next lol. not bad amount of land for a council house.... they just don't build them like that nowadays. only wish I had the right to buy!!!

ooooh i would love an open fire always had one but this house chimmney is bricked up ...looks lovely and cosy LOVE your shabby chic cupboard!!!:)
Thankyou, it was for sale as a dark brown edwardian cabinet thingy, I told the lady that i would buy it if she painted it white and distressed it,( she sold shabby chic stuff) she was horrified and said it would lower the value, she really didn't want to paint it but I have a love for french shabby chic, half way through, she emailled me to say she loved it and couldn't believe the difference. it doesn't belong there but I have a massive 100 yr old piano on the other side of the fire place which I play occasionally but it is now too big for this new house.... Do you think I can get rid??? it breaks my heart that no one wants it for free haahaha, so for the time being the neighbours have to put up with me tinkling the ivory's a bit longer.

why dont you ask at some of your local old peoples homes about the piano , im sure one would love it,older people seem to love and can play the piano and i am sure it would lighten their days. Good job on your shabby chic cupboard its lovely.

  • Evening all,
I've read these threads with interest over the past few years and have received lots of good advice. In 2008 to 2010 I lived in a VERY cold end-terrace house, but luckily, last summer I moved to block of flats, in which I'm the middle of 3 and only 2 walls exposed to the outside. Even in the depths of winter, indoor temp rarely fell much below 19 degrees.
Last winter I had a small electric heater in the hallway, and that was good enough to keep me warm. So much so that I never needed the central heating!
This post has reminded me though that I need to get the winter duvet on soon! It's been nippy the past few nights!
I grew up in an end house and my bedroom was soooooo cold! My mam and dad still get ice on the inside of their windows!
The best place I lived in for winter was an upper flat above one who had a coal fire and their fire used to heat my house up! In the height of winter I would be in a vest and shorts, luverly!

this is why, even though my knees don't like the stairs much in the depths of winter, i still like to live on the first floor!

i have fire/solid fuel stove envy now. now even more than a decade since we moved from skye, since we've had a fireplace, i still see deadfall trees and stacks of logs and think ohhh how lovely that would be for our fire :rotfl:
