Thanks Frugal and suzy - so the stuff we have here that is what we make oatcakes from is the same as all the boxes that Kathy is buying in the US - I thought it must either be porridge oats or 'ready 'brek' stuff as when I have tried to make porridge with our UK/Scottish oatmeal it I found it too long to faff about with although I remember it was very creamy.

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
The oatmeal makes a thick gooey type gruel, because the outer kernel of the oat hasnt been crushed and rolled thats why it takes forever (and tastes awful!)
Made porridge with it once - never again - the rest got made into oatcakes and skirlie.

I've not posted here in a long time, but aside from some more flu meds, i think we are as prepared for winter as we will ever be!

infact, there are 2 things left on my shopping list.

    1. flu/cold meds
    2. a rug for the kitchen floor - argos do some for £15, which will do, it's just to save my feet in the mornings.

Heating hasn't come on here yet, hoping to leave it untill the mornings as just too cold to bear, but we will see. OH probably has different ideas! Got loads of tinned food (about 20 tins of tuna!) and pasta was down to 18p again in sainsbobs recently, so stocked up on that. The freezer is full, but i intend to run this down and restock again just before December - still got lots of summery foods, that i want to replace with stewing meats, and roasting joints.

OH has been using his thermos daily again, this is really a life saver for him as he's out in all weather, he's also go a new body warmer, jacket, jumpers, socks etc so he's sorted himself out this year!

Just waiting for the snow now!!

Hello every one, thank you for all your good wishes , i'm overwhelmed. I have enclosed a photo from the day since so many people posted. I hope no one minds. ( hope the link works i'm not a tec head )

Can I also send a hug out there to those who have had a drop in income too.

I've caught up on some of the thread, apologies if I have missed anything .

We have been back a couple of days and the weather is definitely on the turn.

I'm hoping those in the North of Scotland are managing to stay warm in particular.
because my OH been home last few days the heating been on a little. I am please to say the sunscreens behind the radiator seem to be doing well as the room was warm and the wall behind them cold. so it really seems to work.
still not managed any cheap fleece for our curtains, they are very long and most are too short so may have to do in sections.

I picked up some bits from a Freegler ( Freecycle gone independent in my area) and when I was there they offered me some other bits so I got some faux fur boots. Just the cheap market type, they are fine for the moment and I think will be great as slippers. Only prob is they have to be wrapped with cord around and around to stay up or to take off so time consuming . I'm pondering another way, so any idea welcome to modify these???. ( they are slit up the side)

thanks for all your help and support as ever.:j

"My doors are right up against the walls.. what is the best way to to attach poles/curtains?"

Hi Pigpen, could you hang a pole from the ceiling on the side that the door doesn't open? (iyswim?) So you open the door and walk into the curtain....?

Darkrev....could you sew some velcro, or add a button and make a simple buttonhole from ribbon, maybe? Or perhaps you could sew up some of the side split...? Beautiful wedding dress :D
  • Lovely photo darkrev. Thanks for posting it.
