Ok, where do you all buy your safety pins. I've told DD I will buy her them for fastening up the tin foil curtains but our local sewing shop only sells small packets plus they're very flimsy. I need a lot as some of her curtains are 90" wide. Thanks

Hiya everyone im preparing away here have strted to comile my list and now im just trying to source stuff as cheaply as i can. we have half price garden lanterns and candles for when the winter draws in for the evenings, i bought a solar charger to cash in on free power for the summer to cut my summer bill ready for the winter one as my phone eats electric. I have also purchased some vacuum bags to put all the summer stuff into when the time comes. As well as this im decorating my porch at moment and trying to think of ways to make it warm for winter.
Anyone no how i can hang a curtain rail into upvc or if tab top curtains will hold on a spring loaded tension rod?
Im still washing all curtains so am praying for warm weather. Ive bought a flask for hot drinks.
Closer to the time i will need to buy fleecy pjs and socks for the kids (forever growing lol) im also on look out for flanelette sheets for beds, any ideas?

Yes the spring loaded rod will hold tab top curtain's as long as they arn't to heavy.

And flanelett is also called brushed cotten so be on the look out for both name's, and I seem to remember someone said they got some from L*dl........or was it Ald*?

I got a big pack of safety pins (various sizes but quite a few of each) from the £ shop last year. Need another pack or two now though.

Hello, I have yet to catch up so apologies if it has been discussed but I don't suppose anyone has actually paid for the exacta weather forecast for the winter or if anyone has signed up to any other weather place that wants to share a "rough idea" of what to expect this year? Last year the predictions pretty much all turned out to be wrong but i am so curious to know!!!

I have almost finished my winter prep now, I have done everything except stock up the store cupboard

There is someone on here who does pay for a special report and they said that last year they got the forecast correct. What they did say was that this person this year has forecasted for a bad winter!

In all we had two weeks worth of bad weather and that was it. Right up until January of this year we had stormy windy weather and that was it. Even Christmas and Boxing Day was mild!

We're end terrace and due to having a non working boiler and no money to replace it we only have a gas fire and some electric heaters for heat. The taps do not freeze it is literally just the waste pipes from the kitchen and bathroom sink which do. I have a foil lined camping mat I could cut up and use and cable ties are inexpensive so I will definitely give it a go. Thanks for the idea :D

If you have any old bubble wrap that will do too. It is a lot better than nothing. When we first bought our house the bottled gas froze and the waste pipes too which caused the washing machine to overflow into the hall etc. It was a fiasco :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have used old blankets too to insulate pipes. With spare electrical tape around them. It was spare because it was in Mr Pooh's tool box :o

Today I have been looking for cheap polyester wadding online, to make my first window quilt. I plan to have a look at the damage to our porches and see if we can repair them without spending anything. They act as great insulation when properly sealed.

Mr Pooh is out in the fields collecting branches/boughs from trees that came down last winter. He has been given permission to tidy up and we get some hardwood for our fires.

Need to chase the joiner too. I have been waiting since February

Oh, it's not really tin foil but that's what it looks like. It was the ones that Halfcost had the other week. Can't remember who posted about them first, sorry. Not sure if they still have them though.

I just picked up my safety pins from Tesco's when I went to collect the reduced price fleeces, so now they are safely stored with the fleeces ready for when I use them as lining for the curtains
