Thanks to having 3 older siblings DS is now kitted out for winter. We sorted the wardrobes today.

Just the others to sort now but teenagers just don't seem to be interested in gloves, hats etc.

    Happy prepping everyone.

Ok, where do you all buy your safety pins. I've told DD I will buy her them for fastening up the tin foil curtains but our local sewing shop only sells small packets plus they're very flimsy. I need a lot as some of her curtains are 90" wide. Thanks

    i got mine off ebay

If anyone's looking for socks, I popped into MrS and they had packs of 3 pairs of black ladies thick thermal winter socks (45% wool) reduced to £2.10, 2 pairs of primark type fleecy/fluffy socks reduced to £2.10 and lots of thicker tights and over the knee socks down to £1.

I've washed all my winter bedding & curtains this week after finding out my blanketbox was full of mould  I've also purchased some vacuum bags (Mr A ownbrand ones) and they're fantastic! I used a jumbo one for a kingsize winter quilt, a summer double & a summer single, all down to the depth of a decent pillow now :D Also used a jumbo one on DD's cuddly toys & managed to fit them all bar 3 in one bag :j

Going to sort lists etc tomorrow after work while DD is off at her grandparents with ex. Next week we'll hit town to see if we can nab any bargains on things we need ;)

Most supermarkets near me have safety pins on those little stands with odd sewing bits.

I guess I'm lucky, but DS1 is happy to wear gloves & hats when I pull them out in the winter. If they won't take an interest now, they'll have to have what they're given!

    Happy prepping everyone.

That's good to know, I want to get some vacuum bags to store the out of season duvets.

Vacuum bags are very handy. I've been using them for years but passed most of them on to my sister when she needed to move house and somehow left myself with only travel ones which you roll (no good for quilts etc). All the ones I've bought since have been rubbish, but these ones from Mr A are brilliant, I have 2 jumbo ones, and I picked up a multipack one as well. Its more than halved my 'to sell' pile (mainly out grown clothes belonging to DD) and will be used for the winter/summer stuff very soon. I'm so glad I picked them up especially as I need to store camping stuff as well now that DD is at guides. :D

I need to get some more fleeces - One for each of us with a cross cut into the middle to use as ponchos - fleece doesn't fray so it's very easy to do.

Also, a fleece cut into long lengths makes excellent and very frugal scarves - one blanket could make scarves for the whole family!

A pillow case protector makes a nice snug mini sleeping bag for littlies to pop their legs into whilst watching TV - you could stitch a novelty pillowcase to it to make it a bit more exciting ;)

I am thinking about stitching a fleece blanket to the bottom of the girls' duvet covers for winter so they don't move around and end up at the end of the bed - wouldn't need to remove for washing - just chuck the lot in!

Going to make a window quilt (if I ever get time) for their bedroom window and would like to make one for the bathroom too.

I love it that I already have my Ya@ktrax already and some sturdy winter walking boots, warm clothes, winter coat in next sale - kids have ski jackets courtesy of sp0rts d!rect online sale too :D

I find that my fluffy pr!mark style bed socks are perfect as welly boot socks for the kids - the fact they are too big for them means they go right up their legs to the height of the boots and they can wear them over normal socks/tights :D

Desperately need to start collecting free firewood locally and cut up pallets that my friend brings me, and stack it all by the back door for winter.

Need more rock salt - godsend last year!

Might bring my WM into the kitchen as it always freezes in the outhouse and not sure I can cope with another winter of that happening!!!

At the moment we are using our light summer duvet but when it's time to put a thicker quilt on the summer one is used under the bottom sheet. No need for extra toppers.

Hubby has been busy splitting some logs ready for our open fire :j, I love the glow of the fire shame it doesn't throw out more heat. Most of the warmth goes up the chimney.
