Not sure if any of you have seen recently the rowanberry trees, the ones I have passed are laden, groaning laden, with berries. I do know that when the trees with berries and hedges are laden with fruit it is a sure sign of a bad winter. I haven;t gone examining the hedges recently but I might keep an eye out.

Stocked up today on paracetamol and throat lozengers from £land.

Don't know if this is any good to anyone (or even if its been mentioned already) but I spotted snuggle blankets in Sports Direct yesterday near the tills, £6 each. They were animal print but as long as they keep me warm I wouldn't care lol

I also saw "keep the heat in" socks in mata1an with the ladies socks. No idea how much I'm afraid as I was busy making sure DD didn't knock any of the displays over in her wheelchair. They've also got their 70% sale on and I saw lots of snowboots (or at least they looked like them) in kids sizes, then lots of scarfs, jumpers etc. They also have the boot slippers in at £6 a pair as I bought DD some which she loves as they're furry inside :D
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

I have cleaned the chest freezer out this morning and I have made a list of what I need to get. The freezer is about just over half full as I have been running it down. I have made the list for the butchers and added the other items that are needed to the supermarket shop list. I have also cleaned the cupboards in the garage as well throwing out old cleaners and decanting as well (same products etc such as window cleaner but had two on the go but each half used so decanted and now have one full ones). That has made for extra room there.

I am not going to get the four pints of milk to freeze until about October time as there is no point in freezing that just now. I also gave the tumble dryer a good clean as well. It is pretty much always clean but just gave it a bit extra today.

If you have any old bubble wrap that will do too. It is a lot better than nothing. When we first bought our house the bottled gas froze and the waste pipes too which caused the washing machine to overflow into the hall etc. It was a fiasco :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have used old blankets too to insulate pipes. With spare electrical tape around them. It was spare because it was in Mr Pooh's tool box :o

Today I have been looking for cheap polyester wadding online, to make my first window quilt. I plan to have a look at the damage to our porches and see if we can repair them without spending anything. They act as great insulation when properly sealed.

Mr Pooh is out in the fields collecting branches/boughs from trees that came down last winter. He has been given permission to tidy up and we get some hardwood for our fires.

Need to chase the joiner too. I have been waiting since February

just a thought, one of the window quilt designs used bubble wrap instead of wadding ! as long as it folds or rolls up and u can attach velcro for a snug fit at the bottom it should work x
Thank you to all the money savers:beer: for all the wisdom, companionship, bargains, competitions and ideas:T you have made a transformation to our household, Thank you, it would have been so much harder without you and together we are amazing :A:smileyhea
  • *sigh* - I've been thinking about this thread for a few days ..... glad to see a few familiar faces still around & *hello* to those I've not met before.

I'm starting off in a lot better position than last year and hopefully shouldn't need to buy too much!

The fleece blankets are still attached to the insides of the curtains;) - I've been finding that they're also helping reduce the heat in the bedrooms on hot days as the sun can't get through as much :j

The car kit / mini snow shovel - still in car ;) (will need to replenish the emergency food kit tho'!)

I do need to re-stock the first aid kit - I've had a terrible lurgi the past few days and have managed to work through all the tablets, lozenges & cough mixture that was in it:eek:

Rainy days re the berries on trees etc.... ours were absolutely laden last year and the winter was OK - so don't panic yet!

Right ...... must do a proper list!

If anyone is still looking for fleeces, B&M have twin packs of mixed colours (red/cream, black/grey etc) for £3.99. They are just plain but perfect for a multitude of jobs. Also for cold/flu prep get some manuka honey. I got 10+ Active Manuka honey for £4 in Aldi's. It helps shift the cold pretty quick (which in my case is great as I start my new job tomorrow!).
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

Thanks, unix, you reminded me I'd spotted a B&M store opening in Ipswich as we drove up to Kessingland for a few days away! The boys brought their fleeces with them & I'm glad they did as we've not had enough sheets, so they've used those instead. Off to get more fleeces when we go home tomorrow ;-)
