  • Hi, I've been busy implementing a few great suggestions here:

Bought a couple of fleeces from A to line curtains, and now been given some carpet for use as a small rug to go on the cold laminate.

A friend is going to put up curtain poll I bought £3.50 from Dunelm (although the rings were £2.50 a packet go figure!) to close off the kitchen and small living room so that should help.

This room is a colder room because it is part of an extension (and has a flat roof). It does have cavity insultation on the external walls. It has 1 med radiator and 1 small but I find it isn't really warm even with that (although the radiators seem to be pretty hot when in use).

I was wondering how to make it warmer - I have a small oil heater which creates quite a bit of heat but wary of the cost of running it.
I know some people suggest hot air blowers to take the chill off, what are your thoughts? I've bought some thermals, and hot water bottles and some good ugg type slippers. Planning to get some radiators reflectors in poundland but weren't in last time I checked!

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks:T

beautyify - how about one of the famous electric throws?? People on here have them and say they are a godsend and really cheap to run.
Have tou darught proofed everywhere - altough you will probs. not be able to use the oil heater if you are totally without ventilation.
WIndow film is good to stop the cold seeping through, even from double glazed windows.
What sort of oil heater do you have - is it a paraffin stove?

  • Last nite i put our new electric underblanket on the bed it`s a dreamland double laid on our kingsize and it`s perfect fit was quite worried as some reviews of other blankets say they are really small. The great thing it`s dual control so hubby will have his off most of the time and mine will be very much on all the time :j

Well the freezer has been sorted, i now have a shopping list has long has my arm,
i have been buying bulk saw dust for my rabbits from pets at home does anyone know any other on line stores that are reliable?
we had a short power cut the other night and it was only when we were sat in the dark i realized i didn't know were the torch or candles were, when the lights came back on had a good luck for them only to find candles were broke and unusable and the torch had no batteries.
so have bought new candles and torch batteries and put them within easy reach ready for next time.
its so cold here but i have just put a extra jumper on trying to save and the gas for a bit longer.

Still trying to get my order up to £29 to get the free delivery (typical that I actually really don't need anything for a change - just got loads of dog & cat food...) so had a quick look: http://www.petplanet.co.uk/category.asp?dept_id=63

Not sure how these compare as I've never had rabbits!

As well as Pet Planet, I also order from:

    Medicanimal
    Viovet
    ZooPlus
    Seapets

and have never had problems - just shop around when you want stuff as the prices go up/down so who's the cheapest varies.

Twig - have you really got 8 horses or do they have weekday and Sunday best rugs???? I am very jealous and wondering if you ar near me and need help?????

LOL no Tugrin, we just have two old mares now, and the rugs being cleaned consist of two bulky stable rugs that are too big for the launderette, two unlined turnouts, two heavyweight turnouts, one FAL turnout that's going on eBay, and one spare!

We did have five ponies when DDs were competing, but that was a lifetime ago, when I worked part time instead of the 50-odd hours I do now. Two went to other riders, the old boys lived out their days here, and just the mares are left. Luckily they're kept at home and DDs do all the work, but thanks for the offer!

Watching X Factor and the terrier was lying by the hearth looking hopeful, so I lit the first fire of the season. DD's kittens are 3 months old and fascinated!

GW Titmuss are good too, and whoever you use try to go through Quidco.

We bought the exact same blanket last year, its brilliant.
My husband thought I was being a real softy wanting an electric blanket but he's the first to want it on now:rotfl: .
We also bought two of the heated throws for the sofas, they proved to be a good buy as they offer constant heat and cost pennies to run.
Decent fleecy fabric too, well worth the outlay
  • Rainy Days and Rising: tbh I'd rather trust your feelings about bad weather on the way than I would the Daily Wail or the Met Office!
    Normal people worry me.
