Oh.. question...
My doors are right up against the walls.. what is the best way to to attach poles/curtains?
The doors are too wide for those special door curtain tracks.. I tried them already.
The front door I am thinking of doing the curtain right to the ceiling (there is a window above the door) and maybe putting 2 poles up.. though it will mean using a broom to open and close it.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
:j:j ooh ooh I want one of those and my drive is only about 10 foot long :rotfl:
wonder if it would work as well as the ones you see out in the states tho??
KMiller would be the person to ask
My neighbor has an electric snow thrower like this and seems quite pleased. We have a large heavy gas powered snow blower that OH uses in the winter. It does a good job but is 15 years old and we are not sure how much longer we'll be able to keep it going. We might be looking for a new one soon.
I did not get the carpet shampooed Friday. I'm thinking Monday now as I am off work for the Columbus Day holiday. I did pop into the market today for 12 more boxes of instant oatmeal for OH. He is now up to 27.5 boxes with 10 servings per box:eek: I do not plan on buying oatmeal again for a long time:rotfl::rotfl:
Pigpen-- your little one is gorgeous! Congratulations!
Beautiful day here today!0 -

We just installed a normal curtain pole over the door (it sits in hooks that are drilled into the wall).top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

My front doors the same, I ended up managing to fit a curtain pole but it had to be the fittings that look like cups .... similar to this http://search.diy.com/search#w=Wooden%20Pole%20Bracket%20Natural%20Pine (the one on the right - the link directly to it doesn't work for some reason). You can also buy them as a set with a pole.
I then had to cut the pole to it fit in - I've put it up very high to stop any drafts (hopefully) coming over the top of the curtain. HTHGrocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Pigpen - my front door butts up to the side wall - I put up a standard pole and then put 3 cup hooks in the wall next to the door edge, about 1/3 up and 2/3 up and at the top of the door just under the pole. Sewed 3 little loops to the curtain in the same places and hooked the curtain to the hooks - I put the curtain up with about 7cm free then put the first hook/ring on - that leaves a "flap" to hook to the top cup hook IYSWIM. This gives me a curtain flush to the wall, no gap for draughts etc.
I was wondering about the snails on the curtains too ......."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0 -
Go to Dunelms and buy tension rods for dining room and DS bedroom
Buy fleece blankets to hang off said tension rods
Buy a couple of 5l bottles of water - just in case
Replace empty gas bottle in caravan so we can decamp there if it really goes t*ts up power wise
Buy some long life milk
Make sure i have bread making stuff stocked up - although that includes powdered milk so maybe the above might not be necessary
Buy DS a new coat
Check gloves, hats, scarves
Snow shovel
Salt for paths
buy ice grippers for shoes
thermal insoles for wellies
Rainy days - thanks for such a useful list . I seem to have only added to mine and not crossed anything off except the ? for snow shovels.:rotfl:I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Come on you lot - you know - curtain snails - they help to stick the thermal linings to the curtain as well as providing attractive ever changing silvery patterns - EVERYONE knows about curtain snails surely!!!!!!!!;)debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)0

Hi preppers! I have been lurking in the winter prep threads for a month or so now and I just wanted to thank you all for your suggestions and lists!
This year DH and I are living off less than half what we have in the past because I became a stay at home mum to look after our daughter and then shortly after, DH was diagnosed with a type of rhuematoid arthritis. As a result, he is having to work short hours until the specialist can sort his pain meds. I've been doing as much as I can "old-style" to keep expenditure down and getting some stocks in place for winter is just the icing on the cake. We're very lucky in that we live in a bungalow (so no heat lost up a stairwell) and it has decent loft insulation, double glazing and the cavity walls have been done. There is also no back door which I hated but after reading people's comments about draughts, I'm now rather glad!
So far I have:
Fixed the broken window in the shed
Bought flannette sheets for the beds
Bought layers for DD to easily adjust her temp
Washed all hats, gloves and winter gear which has been sitting in drawers all year
Sorted a door curtain and rail (which my dad is coming to put up on Friday)
Sewed a draught excluder from DH old trousers which had irreparably split in the bum!
Fleece lined our bedroom curtains and got a piece of blackout lining I had in my stash to line DD's curtains
Started crocheting a blanket from yarn scraps
Bled the radiators
Bought a fireguard to protect DD from the gas fire
Made a tonne of jam and 10 bottles of rosehip syrup for christmas hampers and vit C boosts during the winter
Started stockpiling my insulin and test strips
Started stockpiling a couple of bits of groceries a week
Bought some extra dishwasher salt for outside
It is fairly unlikely that we will get properly snowed in but the less driving I have to do in the cold, and the less energy we use, the better!
Thanks again for all your pointers!0 -
Hello, Lysithea! Sounds like you've made really good progress. It's always a weight off your mind.Rainy-Days wrote: »You are going to need to keep a list handy for pharmacist shops, despite your best preps...
Plastic sledges are being brought in by Halfords now, not just for kids you know, they make a fantasic aid to pile your shopping in for pulling home.
Added to my list, along with thermal insoles (and the boots themselves). Although, having no kids to cover me here, if I do buy a sledge, my mum really will think I've lost the plot :rotfl:
I'm having a clear-out today. It's amazing how much clutter can accumulate when your back is turned. A bit like snow ...0
