I've been very brave and ventured into the loft to find the fabric for that door curtain that is now haunting me. Fabric now downstairs, but can't seem to get going with the making of it. DH checked radiators this morning, and only one needed bleeding. He is looking for road salt but about three places he has tried don't have any, including B&Q, Wickes. He is also on a mission to get a decent sack of spuds.

Spent this morning bottling more apples for my parents for through the winter. At least they shouldn't get scurvy :rotfl:

Jamanda - when you say bottling apples do you mean all that faff with kilner jars and boiling in the pressure cooker or is it something else you are doing?

All I have managed to do toady (apart from feel blummin' mis.) is cut a bamboo cane to use as a curtain pole for a heavy curtain over the front bedroom's door where I discovered a HOWLING draft with my little incense stick earlier this afternoon. I was convinced it was still the loft hatch at the top of the stairs and was getting all ready to 'do battle with bubblewrap' (could be new reality TV gameshow that!) when I thought Id just check. Im so glad I did because loft hatch is fine thanks to rubber strip applied ast month.
Oh and I have got an interesting first time recipe apple and sultana cake in the oven as a very good friend gave me a dozen eggs this am - so that will cheer me up with a cuppa.
I thinks its the sudden change - dont you all agree? I mean this time last week I was in t-shirt and capris now Im shivering cos of the drafts. Its been too quick. Garden looks as if its in shock too.

    Morning all.

My carer came in this morning and said 'your house is so cold put some heating on' I told her it was staying off for a little while longer, but it was cold standing there in the nuddy, all wet!!! I'm sorely tempted.

Finished off the radiator reflectors for the outside wall ones. Bit fiddly but hopefully it will be worth doing. Might need another hot water bottle, which will be ebay again as HB and most other stores are 20 odd miles away. Ahh the rural life!

One of my friends has texted me this morning about going from IB to JSA. This has now panicked OH and we are now trying to budget for a possible drop in money. Was trying not to worry about it too much as it sets my MH issues off but I suppose I have to face it.

Keep prepping and stay warm in our fleecy blankets!
Edit to say AWWW Pigpen your daughter is gorgeous. I'm getting all gooey because I'm hoping that grand children may come along in the next couple of years.

Don't know if your house is the same as mine, we only have central heating radiators for heating so I can't put the radiator on in just the bathroom.

My winter prep for next year will involve getting small rads for the bathroom & hallway so we can give them a burst of heating while leaving the rest off. (There's no rad in the hallway at the moment, just on the landing at the top of the stairs, but I think having one there on a timer would help with the chilly feel when we come down the stairs first thing or come in from school/work.)

At mother's old house, she had an oil filled rad in the bathroom & a huge one on the landing outside the bathroom (middle floor of a 3 storey house), so she'd put the landing rad on timer to come on in the mornings - it really took the chill off before the rest of the house got heating on.

Does anyone know if all hot water bottles take the same size stopper, are they interchangeable, and can you buy replacement stoppers? Both DDs had HW bottles as part of last year's Christmas pressies, as I was being so mean with the heating (and will be more mean this year), and they have BOTH lost the stoppers. My bottle was from Boots, its stopper seems to fit their bottles but I haven't tried with hot water!

The stopper on the poundland hot water bottle i have is smaller than my other hot water bottles so i would say it wouldnt fit ur bottles from boots.

:rotfl:Ohhh, just rub it in again!:D

A little bit of green envy ..... I sooooooo miss mine! Enjoy, after the wait I'm so glad it's been worth it!:D

It's blooming cold today, haven't got warm all day (have on.... vest, thick t-shirt, fleece jumper, scarf & fingerless gloves on the top 1/2 and knee high thick socks + 2 other pairs, thick jogging bottoms on the bottom - and a hw bottle).

Think I may be "getting something" as I don't normally feel this cold! (I'm quite a hardy person having lived in cold houses most of my life).

I washed down the yard today and really gave it damn good scrub. Halfords are getting in 10 thousand snow shovels as they are now saying snow is coming early November and will stay until January!!

I am done pretty much now, just need to get the cordylines in and thats it. Someone has mentioned to me this afternoon that we could get it bad last week of October!

This below is the same link that Pinkmami gave as above:-
