Yes stocking up on tinned vegetables for the winter and frozen ones might be the only way a lot of people will have them as what is likely to be available will be expensive as they will be imported, although not sure where from, as weather is weird all over either to wet or to dry. Grains also could be affected so bread flour, even breakfast cereal, pasta all could be in short supply or outrageously expensive.

I know this in not really on topic but just in case anyone hasn't heard ( Unlikely I know) but dairy farmers might be pouring milk down the drain on or before August 1st as they are unhappy ( don't blame them) at the reduction in price they will be paid for milk - so maybe add fresh milk to freeze, long life milk, cheese ( hard not soft) to freeze, double cream can be frozen, dried milk..........all can be part of winter preps though if not needed now......

Me thinks its going to be a long hard winter one way or other...........
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Is anyone else cold this morning? I gave in and put the heating on yesterday, not because of the cold thing but to try and dry washing. Its taking ages!

I've looked out the jersey material cardigans I bought in Blackpool as I'm cold. Up early to sort out job applications. Have a cuppa, and although I have flip flops on my feet (wooden floors in living room and kitchen) I may go get a pair of cosy socks to put on.

I think I need to maybe look again at the heated rails, I'm definitely not getting a tumble dryer. But I am fed up of wet washing.

My veggies are ok, though not sure my potatoes will make it but still have onions, herbs, chillis, lettuce (now indoors) which appear to be growing ok. My tomato plant is more like a triffid but the only 2 flowers it had have died off. :(
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

I'm getting to the stage in life where women don't get cold ;-) so am sitting here in my cotton summer pjs but wearing my bootie slippers. It's definitely not warm though, & now you've said it, I'm aware my arms are uncovered & feeling cooler than ideal.

I think I've done 1 week this year without any duvet on the bed, & even then I had a blanket over the sheet.

Got my MrT fleeces yesterday, 4 pink, & 3 each of grey & turquoise. I'm starting with DS2's curtains since I'd taken them down & washed them. So I ironed them last night while watching the first episode of Turn Back Time on iplayer, & doing the rest of the ironing. Was going to watch it on tv through DS1's xbox, but t'internet was playing up on that, so we watched it on the laptop instead. I put the mouse on the end of the ironing board & the jiggling from ironing was enough to move the mouse tiny bits & stop the screen going off.

DS1's got his prom tonight, & my sister got married in March, so I'd got him a suit in the Xmas sales for both the wedding & the prom, cheaper than if we'd hired for both. So I also ironed his shirt & trousers last night, we'd had a panic when we couldn't find his jacket but it was under DS2's sleeping bag hanging on my bedroom door :o Not creased though, luckily.

I think that frozen veg is a good idea given that things could get pretty dire on the cost of the veggies front. I will get a sack of potatoes in around end of September time and hopefully that will keep some costs down as well.

I don't know what kind of summer this is but it's horrible. Ever since they called it climate change it's been pants. Bring back Global warming I say at least then we had decent days!

Gettingtherequickly - What a kind offer re the fleeces - where are you tho as I would need to get them from you xxx

I'm in Croydon, and I mean literally 5 mins from Ikea. Am quite happy to post them to you, will be cheap as they are light and I will both have a legit reason to go in there and will also have saved a fortune at the same time! (Actually, don't really need an excuse to go in there:D)

I wish I could walk to ikea :D

I felt it was a lot cooler in the house last night/this morning. I'm tempted to put the heating on though as i'M WORRIED ABOUT DAMP IN MY BEDROOM. i'VE BEEN - oops sorry caps - drying washing in there but as it's not been warm of late it's taking so long.

Not really preparing for winter comment but I'm making a list of tinned goods I want to add to the stocks, things that can be eaten cold if need be. i.e. rice pudding, beans, sweetcorn, peas, custard, raviloi.

I definitely have damp in the spare room where I dry my washing and have been thinking what to do about it. I wonder if we need a dehumidifier.

    Hi Peeps

i've just given in and put the heating on for an hour to help dry some washing - i have some jeans that are still not dry after three days! I could actually put them in the dryer but decided on the heating so that i can warm the house through as its cold and damp and foggy here!

I've also started to stock up for winter (started about 3 weeks ago) and have just bought DH some Dunlop rubber wellies from amazon - really good quality and they look as if they will last forever so am quite pleased - they were only £9.99 but the postage was another £5.99 on top but am very glad that i decided on that pair.

I have floor covering down in the kitchen for the first time in three years lol, gone is the nasty concrete and floorboarded vision and in its place are my nice new carpet tiles :D I'm glad that i decided on them in the end - it took a while to get my head around having carpet in the kitchen instead of a hard surface but it does look great and the room is so much warmer. The curtains have been altered and are now up too so it actually looks like part of the house now and is homely, just a couple of small jobs to do and then its finished and i can move on to the next room.

Unixgirl - that scarf is lovely - i might have to try one myself and i'm rubbish at knitting :D

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

In our second bedroom I kept on smelling a musty smell - even though the room was clean and well aired with daily window openings - in the end one day it drove me mad, I pulled the bed away from the wall and found a greenish mould on the back of the bed and on the wall. I put a solution of bleach and hot water - used gloves as well - and wiped over the area, I had the big windows wide open. I washed all the bedding and everything. Moved the bed to a different location (not placed back on the outside wall) and since then it has gone - fingers crossed. So if you have anything up against an outside wall and if it can be moved do it!
