Another clothes drying option for some could be a clothes drier - like the 'dri buddi' by jml sort (http://www.jmldirect.com/uk/laundry/dri-buddi/invt/d04db10100000001/) - we actually got the cheaper Maplin version (http://www.maplin.co.uk/portable-clothes-dryer-617886) but as you can see that's now discontinued... you might be able to get similar for a good price somewhere though.

Not sure about humidity issues but we were given a dehumidifier by parents anyway (their old one) so not much of a concern, and this place is already damp so can't get much worse, lol.
    On the up :D

My cotton traders boots are here! A bit stiff but very fluffy inside, think they will be good and cosy for the walk to work on a wintry morning! Hope they look good with a smart skirt lol

  • just wondering if anyone had any predictions for this winters weather?
as weather will impact on winter prep....ok if cold/dry/snowy but need to re think if this rain continues for rest of year....wet clothes drying, footwear issues ,probably would need more rain macs and waterproof trousers <damp house getting damper along with somehow waterproofing boys rucksacks for school....although putting their stuff inside a carrier inside rucksack may be the best mse plan for that problem!!

I would like to know too. We spent a fortune of heating last winter and we won't be able to this winter.

My little old neighbour, who is a keen gardener, told me that his potatoes have some kind of parasite that means the winter will be very cold. But then again, you have so many local meteorological dogmas that I really don't know what to believe :o

Is it really bad to dream of a white Christmas? Not much snow, just a little bit and then it goes quickly. I only ever had one white Christmas. But then I feel selfish wanting this, thinking of the people sleeping outside or people (hubby included) who still have to commute... :o

i remember seeing something somewhere, maybe last month saying that we keep having cold fronts move in then hovering in the area for long long periods of time due mostly to the odden feature not functioning properly (it is one of two oceanic 'pumps' that drive the ocean currents including the gulf stream which is what makes britain temperate despite how far north it is)

if we have issues with this this winter it'll be similar to 2010 which means at best we could have very prolonged cold spells and if we get a sluggish front with snow that could be prolonged too.

i'm not sure how much precipitation, snow or rain we'll see but my 'bones' tell me it might be quite cold this year. i'd love to be proven wrong and be able to turn my heat off in february like i did this year but i don't know, i'm not holding my breath on that front.

I have heard it will be a hard winter again. I guess I'd rather prepare for it & be over-prepared again, than have to struggle if it is worse than I'm prepared for...

DS2's waterproof trousers still fit him (Master Short legs!) & mine were new last year (though I could do with a larger size or a smaller waist). DS1 wouldn't wear them last year, & is supposed to be looking for a part time job so he can afford motorbike gear. Trying to convince him he will need over trousers he can take off to reveal ordinary jeans for 6th form, while worrying about him biking to 6th form in bad weather... Luckily the bus for 6th form collects from the corner near us, & he has said he won't bike in bad weather.

I'd turned the thermostats down last year so the heating will kick in at 13°C at the times we are likely to be out (& it goes up higher when we're likely to be at home), & that seemed ok - cat did get thicker fur. But now we've got the 2 hamsters, I think I might have to set it a little higher. Pants.

Wow 13c to cold from me even thought I come from the northern end of UK, although been down south for many a year. We left our heating on 18c all last winter, if we felt cold just wrapped up, at last hubby has got the idea that fleece jackets are not just to keep him warm outdoors but can be worn inside - he would walk round in shortsleeves then bung heat up when he was chilly - and if still well plenty of fleece blankets around. I picked up an original slanket in cs shop last year still unopened in its box for £5 and compared to cheap ones it is so thick and soft and hubby has actually taken a shine to it, its cream coloured and quite a few times last winter I would come downstairs to find him fast asleep on couch - totally normal for him - with tv blaring away and the slanket all wrapped round him.

I noticed the dogs fur all got thicker than usual and there was far less hair around for quite a few months which was a nice change, so they were snug enough but they have plenty of blankets on their bed as well.

I don't think I will be brave enough to go any lower unless financially we must as didn't quite need gloves on indoors but was close call some very cold days and not to many of them, so if this winter is worse I can see my then trying to cook etc wearing gloves as my kitchen is freezing as oven is built in so has fan that blows out to stop cupboards above and below getting hot so cancels out the heat from oven and then some.........
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Are they syrians? I love these little creatures so much. But I remember having to leave the heating on just for my hamster :o

We now "only" have a cat, house rabbits, guinea pigs and fish :D

I better get started with finding fleece PJs. I want an all-in-onesie from Primark :o . A cow one (go figure :rotfl: )
