I revisited the energy audit I had done a year or so ago and see that 55% of heat is lost through he walls. I need to look at ways of lining the walls to stop that happening. Has anyone lined the walls on the inside? And what with?

we had a place once with north facing walls that caught all the gale winds so we lined it with bookshelves and books and what a difference that made

if i ever have my own home built i will have all my built in cabinets and wardrobes/closets on north facing walls wherever possible to help against heat loss, also smaller windows or none on the north side and nice triple glazed big windows on the south side... hey a girl can dream :p

i've been saving boxes for my next move (no car so it's extremely troublesome to obtain boxes for moving) i've flattened them all and stuffed them behind an old disused free standing 'fireplace' that just so happens to be on the wall where my unheated stairs are (i'm in a maisonette and there's another door at the top of the stairs i keep closed) i also put some in the back of my daughters closets on her bit of wall that is exposed to the stairs and that also made a big difference. obviously not the thing to do if you have damp issues but we don't and they're fine, been there for more than 2 years now hidden away but keeping us toasty!

I have no idea what window quilts are but they sound like my cup of tea!
Annie123 made a very useful post with links about window quilts on an earlier preparing for winter: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/44829454#Comment_44829454
I like the idea of the flooring underlay, sounds really easy and portable. You could maybe use that behind furniture etc like the cardboard box idea? Thanks a lot :)

Great news Deb68 congratulations to all of your family:beer:
We had hailstones yesterday... and sunshine, and strong winds. Wonder what today will bring? Reckon I'll have a peep under the compost covers, just to see what's happened over winter...

I think it might be a bad copy and paste and deb is congratulating a previous poster.... There is one half of quote coding in there, and I'm sure that we had a Molly Maria arrive not long ago...

Right, at last it looks as if the winter prep might have been worth it! Snow is due here in about six hours.

Of course, in typical fashion, I'm almost out of milk, so I have to get some this morning, but, much more importantly, I have to buy presents...

Hmm... looks like you're right Greenbee, I was thinking that the name was familiar! Doesn't take much to confuse me these days!:o:)

Bit of a late reply I know, but at one of our old homes, my bedroom was north facing and there was no heating in the house and single glazing. We got polystyrene boards and put them on the walls and the wallpapered over them (except one wall where we ran out of paper :o)
