just got in a load of groceries and the delivery man said that we're expecting snow here Thursday or Friday so maybe we will get some here, it seems all this year everyone around us is getting it but not us

i'm actually hoping for a bit it doesn't seem like winter without it and i need it to hide how long and shaggy the grass has gotten since it kept growing very very slowly since my last cut in late october :p

with everyone giving warnings of it being bitterly cold i have already started turning the heat up a little to warm the house before it gets too cold, i also now have 4 jugs of milk in my freezer, can't have bitter cold without tea to warm us through now can i?

here's hoping everyone is ok, and anyone who does get snow, please please we need details and lots of them, pics too if you can share them :rotfl:

It really did not matter how much or how little winter preparing we did - at least to some extent or another we all, on here, did something. Mine was quite allot, but in fairness we hadn't done a huge amount in previous years, so it was kind of playing catch up.

There is no snow forecast for us at all even looking ahead on the 10 day weather forecast!! I think it is likely to be just very cold, day and night. If the worst does happen we will still be able to see this through comfortably without any panic being induced.

Only thing that gets me down is washing drying indoors which adds to the condensation but the tumble dryer will have to pick up the slack there!

The lid of the wheelie bin was frozen on this morning. I had to stand it in front of the vent from the dryer to defrost.

well I've just been to Farm Foods & got 6 Hovis white loaves for £4 - 3 for £2 - bargain! Now need some part baked baguettes so the kids can have some food for a packed lunch! At least we have bread to fill us up with the soups I have in stock!
  • Hi folks, the water bath experiment worked really well. The stew took 4 hours and so did the jar of veg but the dumpling was perfectly cooked in 2 hours. It was delicious and cost nothing in fuel as we had the fire lit anyway. I shall definately continue to experiment with all sorts of things and hopefully it will help keep the gas bills down.

I am sure it saved you on fuel for the woodburner as your inner glow satisfaction for saving on the utility bills as well as cooking a delicious meal would be adding to your warmth :D

We are one day (when funds allow) planning on installing a woodburner in our sitting room, we are defiantly looking for a model with room on top to heat/cook food

  • Well its -6c outside this morning yet as there is no wind and air is actually rather dry ( actually not rained for 2 days, a record) there is not to much frost around - I did grit path in case it became slippy. Birds water dish was frozen so that has been sorted and more food put out. Soil looks frozen and is only thing that is glistening.

    Stay warm and safe

Cold here too but woke up to no frost at all - was really expecting to have to defrost car before doing school run this morning.

Was silly cold here first thing, hasn't got much better, the wind is perishing but in the sun it's just about bearable.

Stocked up on a few essentials as if we get what I think we are goin to get we might not be able to get out for a while. The council have just been round and blasted all the gutter drains, never seen them do that before at this time of year, I can only assume they think something's imminent.

I've just restocked the log pile and brought in three huge idea bags worth of logs and 25kilos of coal....the sledges are also handy.....just incase :)

Oh and as its so sunny I've been able to power my oil filled heater for free for the past two days thanks to the solar panels, means we only put the heating on for an hour first thing to warm the bones of the house, the heater and the fire do the rest. :T:T
