Well here we are, New Years Eve and it's still mild out there. Rainy and miserable, but not cold at all. Thing is, I quite like winter to BE winter, cold, snowy, the whole works. But then I think of the heating bills and... Anyway, my hot water bottles, flasks, fleece gloves, Russian trapper hat, yaktrack shoe chains, are all there at the ready.

Happy 2012 one and all!

just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a Happy New Year!

i'm hoping the rain stops a few hours before the bell so it's dry enough for us to enjoy all the fireworks those around us set off :p

hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable evening!

I agree with you quasar... I'd like crisp and cold rather than warm and wet right now. And the light levels are really low, which doesn't help. When it snows you get all that lovely reflected light!

My new interlined curtains are up, and look lovely and cosy. They were just cheap polyester curtains that my mother bought in error and realised the colour was perfect for my study, so she lined and interlined for me and they are fantastic. I can thoroughly recommend that anyone with a sewing machine considers doing this any time curtains need altering/repairing/relining...

Log baskets, coal scuttle and kindling basket are full, so like quasar I'm all ready for the cold :D

Apparently the weather is going to become a bit more interesting from midweek ;)

I hope so! My son thinks I am a complete nut for spending out on YakTrax for him and I!!! I NEED it to snow to prove to him I am sensible, not bonkers!!!

Oh here in London the snowlight effect is great! The sky is pink at night and you could even read by it! It all looks magical. :A

I envy those who have a real fire. It makes winter... winter. My idea of a cosy, contented winter day is: dreadful snowstorm outside, while inside there's a cracling fire, a comfy armchair by it, a cat or two curled up somewhere nearby, a hot cuppa (or a glass of wine ;)), and a good read. :D

  • Jeepers its 14.5c outside on 31st Dec unbelievable, downside it the warmer it gets the more it rains, been raining every day now for about 7 weeks ( might be a bit longer). We did have snow fall one day but it rained in the morning before it snowed then rained the next day. Even when sun is out its raining. My left front garden has been under water for weeks as its lowest draining point. Thinking about taking up rice growing, this weather is perfect for it, just as well my vegetable garden is on top of a hill so water drains down if not they would be rotting instead of growing, another thing that is amazing, leeks, cauliflower and kale still growing happily now.

    Anyway moan over.

I hope 2012 keeps you all safe, warm and dry ( for those like me living with constant rainfall)

    Hugs to all

I've turned my heating off too. I have just had a bath and the children are on the kinect so plenty warm enough. It's awful outside though wet and windy not much fun for those having fireworks tonight.

Enjoy the evening and Happy New Year.

Just wanted to say thank you again to all you winter-preppers for your help and support this year. Ok so I haven't had any snow yet, but it'll be here one day, and I'm ready for it :D...even got a little camping sauce pan for my camping stove in the sale yesterday (£2.99 instead of a whopping £8.99! What!!)

Best wishes to you all for 2012

Happy New Year Preppers, I just wanted to say a huge thankyou for all the motivation to get ready for winter, even though we haven't had any of the white stuff or even a first frost, it gives me a nice warm cosy winter feeling when people post their winter pics and I look forward to many to come.
The weather was windy and drizzly here last night in St Ives, Cornwall and celebrations were a plenty, I did my part for thriftiness and watched the fireworks for free from the window, DD2 didn't make it to the count down she zonked out at about 11:30pm and DD1 was too busy wishing her friends a HNY on facebook hahaha!!! but kisses all round and we were in bed by 12:10am.
Anyway looking forward to a whole new year, lots of new challenges to be had,
Sleet forecast here today, I am about to go to work, there are lots of elderly people wanting cups of tea and cuddles.
Chicken stew made in the sc last night so my girls can help themself until I get home about 1:30pm, Have a lovely day one and all xxxx
