15% chance of this not happening but I am going no-where from about mid month, 15-17th. I will be tucked up at home with all food and comforts bought before then.

we're supposed to go to edinburgh for the christmas faire on the 19th, we're in fife and will be taking the train and will have to go across the forth rail bridge, do you think that's still a possibility?

i worry more about the intense cold than snow, they clear the lines of snow relatively quickly but the last 3 years we've had issues with the points being frozen at christmas time on our arduous trip to dunoon (it's like 70miles or so but it takes 5 hours on a good trip!)

i paid for the room in summer it was cheap so i can live with losing that, so far i haven't booked the train tickets after issues last year. we don't get any pre booking discount on this particular trip so i'm sitting on my hands til closer to the time

on the other side of things thanks for the heads up, you've spurred me to go ahead and get the last bits i need for christmas ordered from asda NOW before the drivers can't get to me. i'll just have to be a very good girl and not eat all the cheese before christmas :rotfl:

Ahhhh. Thanks for the heads up kittie. Due to fly to London for sisters wedding celebrations on 16th. I love the weather. Last year it was my SIL wedding in November. Will have to look at back-up plans as no-one attended the wedding (Beach in Thailand - we were told 24hrs before that is was happening) People flying from everywhere for the party. Grrrrr. Worst case scenario, we drive. Been done before.

Snowing here but not too bad. The village took a bit of a battering but not too bad. I pity DH. He's off on exercise this weekend around Aberdeen. BRRRRRRRRR.

I had thundersnow last winter and it was really weird, strange. We had snow on the 2nd dec here. I will get in a big shop on Monday of all the things I havent got a lot of (if that makes sense lol!) mainly cat food really. And cheese. I keep a big store cupboard because we get bad winters at the best of years, the last 2 were seriously snowy :)
Just spent ages on youtube falling about at the videos of the hurricane lol. We weren't too bad as the gable end of the terrace faces west into the wind - but standing at kitchen window watching the speed of the rain and clouds going past at amazing high speeds was interesting.

I just wanted to say that my offer of being a snow volunteer for the LA has been taken up and I am now the proud owner of a snow shovel (free) and some grit (free). I'll be clearing the nieghbours paths and gritting their steps. If the snow could just wait until DD has her plaster taken off her leg then we are ready to go. So the last item on my list of things to buy has now been acquired for free.

As for the weather yesterday - Are we really going to use the british stiff upper lip and call it a storm? - it was a hurricane!!!!!
If you dont want it - dont waste it - Freecycle it!

That's really interesting Katkin. A similar voluntary scheme of snow wardens locally has had no takers as everyone is frightened that if they clear a neighbour's path and then someone slips, the snow warden could be liable and sued. As a conseqence, lots of paths, side roads, old people's bungalows aren't going to be cleared. The Parish Council won't clear anything either for the same reason and the main local authority won't do it as their priorities are key routes. So good for you, I'm sure if just one person in a community does it, then others will follow.

with pleasure but realise that I am speaking in code most of the time ;) and doubters please look away, I am sure cbrown372 will be kind enough to post the correct and accurate links for you :)

15% chance of this not happening but I am going no-where from about mid month, 15-17th. I will be tucked up at home with all food and comforts bought before then. I am pleased to say that I have some great new snow boots but I doubt they will be good enough. I thought that article about thundersnow was interesting, remember last year, such a massive dump covered most of the country, N, S, E W

Did cornwall get a dump? I thought not. I know that I couldn`t go anywhere for 6 weeks after that so am very welll prepared just in case, including lots of treats and things to do

I love the code esp "I have great snow boots but I doubt they will be good enough" :rotfl:

Unfortunately I am working mid month and so will be making sure car is well stocked, petrol tank full, spare pack ciggies and lighter :o, food, torches etc. Luckily I don't have a long drive and if it starts coming down, I can get off home if needs be.

Thanks for the updates Kittie x

Thank goodness - the penny has dropped. I've been wondering all morning why she didn't buy some better ones. :rotfl:I thought she'd gone as scatty as me.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I can`t help chuckling to myself.

I`ve got a festive food order booked for 14th and I`ll better get a lot of those tablets for severe wind ;). I remember the time I stepped into a drift caused by wind and driving snow, I just went straight down, only up to my waist that time but wouldn`t like to have it up to my neck next time ;) People used to vanish into drifts.

don`t give me met forecasts!! we listened to them last night and this morning and got a big load of washing done ready for the `sunshine`, what flipping sun? Its been raining ever since the machine finished
