Blimey itys freezing this morning! My new Karrimor winter coat is out & being road tested - so far so good - I was toasty taking the kids to school. Now off the look for some baselayers for the kids as football games are in chilly places!!!!

In our local Asda they were flogging off their old packaging kids thermals for £2 instead of £6 for a 2 pack of long sleeved tops or long johns, worth checking out perhaps

    Lavandula,
I took voluntary redundancy two years ago and I haven't missed the City one bit! One of my colleagues was sure I'd be bored, but I knew I wouldn't be.
And I never have to talk about competencies again!!

I'm almost looking forward to it:)

The wind and rain in the night was really bad, it is still very windy here right now but at least we have sunshine. I had my coat on to sort the horses out and had a fleece underneath it as well and walking round the field with the dogs this morning, well it was really chilly so I was glad for the sun on my back.

I have cleaned (vacuumed) the car out this morning. I shall take it to be washed maybe next week now and then wax it up then with probably another quite vac out if it needs it. The rubber mat underneath the existing drivers rubber mat (which as you might remember had formed some small holes in it and I bought a supporting one to go underneath from Poundland) is doing a really good job. Downside is that I cannot get any more rubber mats from Poundland now. It seems when I mentioned it on here, the lady in Poundland told me that they were there for a while and within a week they had all gone!!! I still think people are ruddy lurking and reading all our tips!

The garage has been vacuumed as well. I have a big piece of carpet at the top of the garage where both the freezer and tumble dryer sit and it is conveniently located right next to where the personnel door is to come into the house. That piece of carpet is such a boon to me because even when it is cold I can nip out there in my slippers and my feet don't get cold. I just like to keep it clean. I also cleaned out the filter in the tumble dryer really well and overall gave a good clean around out there. Everything has it's own little place so it's not untidy but more keeping it clean now that the leaves are blowing about and come in with when I bring the car into the garage.

I nipped into Mr. A's last night and got a sack of Dog food and a snow shovel. Thank you to whoever posted this, I'm delighted with it!
  • I bought some hiking boots today. I can use them for hiking at weekends but their primary use is as waterproof footwear for the walk to work in rain/snow in the winter- i don't currently have any waterproof walking shoes.

    Hi Peeps

just a quickie from moi as i`m off to w*rk in a mo :(

    Darkrev - Congratulations :beer::beer::D

Rising - Would a tube of no more nails do the trick? It now comes in a soft squidgy plastic tube which would probably be easier on your hands than the cartridge type container which fits into the mastic gun type of holder.

I`ve just ordered a pair of gaiters from @mazon, after walking the woofaloes this morning the bottom of my trouser legs were filthy, can`t wait for them to arrive. They should really cut down on the washing as i`m always washing jeans etc as the bottoms are grubby when the rest are really fine.

Have good days everyone - its freezing here

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Thanks, brilliant idea - think it will have to be the no more nails .... tried to bash tacks in earlier and didn't get anywhere (I couldn't hold the wood, tack and hammer at the same time:o). Hands are useless for "fiddly" things.

Meant to ask yesterday as the 2 bags of dog food arrived ... do you think it'll be OK to store the "emergency" bag in the garage?

I've got a big tub that takes a 15kg bag (which I've just emptied one into) and room to keep 1 other but struggling to fit both the new bags into this room - I have to keep them in there as it's the room with the baby gate and Mr Mischief can and will open a bag given the chance!:D

    Afternoon all

Today we've had sun, rain, gales galore and a very fierce hail storm, so I think autumn's finally here with a bang! Nowhere as ready as I should be, although my loo rolls stocks have gone from 4 rolls to about 40, plus several packs of baby wipes, 1 large storage box containing pasta, stock cubes, tinned tomatoes, savoury rice and quite a few tea bags - not too bad when I had nothing this time 2 weeks ago! :D The staff in the pound shops must be wondering why I've been in so often for loo rolls! :rotfl:

Hoping to get some rock salt and snow shovels tomorrow, and going to order DS a snowsuit and snowboots online tonight - seen several, so will just see which are in stock. DH thinks I'm a bit potty stocking up on stuff, but then he wasn't the one struggling through the snow and ice last 2 winters with little kids - I'm doing it my way to ease potential stress levels! :rotfl: If the worst happens, schools closed, tons of snow, etc., then the kids and I can hunker down and stay inside where it's warm.

Hope people aren't too cold yet!

    A xo

    I can't stop grinning :D

I know there is more to do but I'm gonna have to burn something in it tonight - even if its one of those supermarket heat log things. I'm going to go and get an electrical tester from a DIY store this afternoon and if the cable isn't live, i'm gonna cosy up with a fire :D
  • Good Afternoon Everyone.

We were nearly blown all the way to school today, it's quite windy but the sun is shining. The breeze is much cooler, the washing on the line takes that bit longer to dry now.

I hunted out my wellies for the walks to school. The trouble is I have short chubby legs :o and the tops of the wellies are too tight on my calves/calfs?.... well anyway the top is too tight. :embarasse So I tried to fold the tops over, but this is not as easy as you might think (chubby fingers too). So got some strong scissors and I cut a slit down the back, only about 1 & 1/2 inches and Hey Presto, my boots fit !! And with no pinchy bit at the top.. :T

My Tesco delivery came yesterday and I've added a few more bits to the pantry. I also got a glade "honey and chocolate" candle which smells divine. We lit it last night while snuggled up watching TV. I might get another few as I could see us lighting this every evening. It's a bit of a luxury but it does smell good.

With anyone having their shopping delivered perhaps from Tesco or Asda etc, it might be an idea to keep and eye on the delivery slots as we head closer to the holiday period, and if possible, book early. I don't drive and have a poorly back (numerous sliped discs and a small fracture) so I just can't go into town and bus home with bags of shopping.

Most of my preparations are done or as much as I can for now. I just need to get things done as I see the need now. I do however, need to get a ladies garden spade. My eldest son (14) clears the pathways out the front of our houses and would manage better with a lighter spade. The one we have is a cement shovel and is quite a weight without a spade full of snow and ice on it. The front of our house is north facing and so never sees the sun all winter, As a result the snow and ice takes forever to thaw and can end up like an ice rink.

I have put a chicken casserole in the slow cooker today, when that is done and cooled it will go in the freezer for a colder day that this ;). Good luck with all your preparations everyone..
